Do You Think the U.S. Should Stop Deporting Young Immigrants? (Obama Does)

Barack Obama made headlines Friday as he stated that his administration will no longer deport young illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. when they were children. His announcement, as expected, was met with part-joy and part-skepticism -- as well as a heckler who constantly kept interrupting the president as he spoke.

"These are young people who study in our schools, they play in our neighborhoods, they're friends with our kids, they pledge allegiance to our flag. They are Americans in their heart, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper," the president said in his speech Friday morning. But he was also quick to add that this is not a permanent answer. "This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship... It's not a permanent fix," Obama said. Do you think the U.S. should stop deporting young immigrants?

The other dumb part of Obama's plan is that he is discrimanating by age against old people, middle aged people etc. That is wrong too.

Sorry, Obama, I can't be with ya on this one.

Illegals illegal, regardless the age. Come in the RIGHT way, just like MY ancestors had to, or DON'T come at all.

Also: no breaks for illegals. They shouldn't even be qualified to work, much less get benefits.

I feel really bad for those who grew up here but if they refuse to become citizens then they need to go back to their homeland. But I would probably make an exception if they serve honorably in the military. And learn English.

Along with gay marriage and dropping gas prices. He's desprate to be re-elected. If he really cared, he'd have done it in the begining. He's buying votes... And as far as im concerned with what he's done, loosing votes at the same time. Think about it if he's doing this because wants to be reelected... there is not more elections for him... what will happen when he doesn't need to try to "keep up" his reputation.

If you paid any attention at all to politics, outside things that give you the chance to criticize Obama, you'd know all the stuff he's done in support of gay marriage.

As for immigration.. Have you ever heard of the DREAM Act?

I pay attention to ALL politics... Gay marriage is immoral and against everything we were founded on in the first place. Sure! I believe in equal rights to ALL American citizens. Not illegals, and as for gays, they had equal rights, they had the right to marry a member of the opposite sex just like everyone else.

Oh, am I to assume, with what you have just said, that you're of the religious fundamentalist nutjob persuasion? Maybe. You haven't called it unnatural yet.

Either way, that explains so much. Tsk, tsk. I do so hope you are just a very vocal minority, or the US is doomed to remain in the 11th century along with extremist Islam.

Typical bias: Your title and your question refer to "immigrants." Of COURSE, we shouldn't deport IMMIGRANTS. But the first line of your story uses the correct term "ILLEGAL immigrants." Stop trying to confuse us.
The fact is, immigrants are people who move to another country legally. So NO, don't deport IMMIGRANTS. But DO deport ILLEGAL ALIENS.
I know many Hispanics in the US and they do are afraid to go out at night because of HISPANIC GANGS. These are amost 100% illegal aliens. So Hispanics don't want MORE illegality. They want law and order.

Confusing response, you say he should stop deporting and then say he should deport, it would have made more sense if you had selected NO to start with and then expl;ained as you did the differences in definition.

Immigrants are immigrants. Age shouldn't matter. America is in bad enough shape wihout all the illegal. If they are Americans in their hearts, then they should become citizens. Otherwise, they should go back to their own country.

What Obama did is not illegal, contrary to what the many whining conservatives here on SodaHead think.

It's called an Executive Order, which is why it's temporary (2 years).

Bush had many of them...blocking Stem Cell Research (Executive Order 13435), Declassification Privileges for the VP (Executive Order 13292), plus others. Conservatives seem to think Republican Presidents don't make executive orders...silly cons...learn your history!

If Romney's elected, he can terminate the order after its 2 years are up.

In fact, Romney even said today (6.15.12) that he sees nothing wrong with the policy itself, just the way it was implemented. He wants a long-term solution instead of a temporary one, which means he would have his work cut out for him with a Republican Congress, which has already said NO! (which is what they always say, right?) to a long-term solution, the DREAM Act.

I'd say for Obama to implement the policy indicates he feels pretty good about being re-elected in November, meaning he can extend the policy another 2 years in 2014.

You really think Obama gives a damn about young illegal immigrants? This was nothing more than pandering for the Hispanic vote and coupled with his department of injustice fighting voter ID laws this will stuff the ballots with even more illegal votes. But u don't care about a fair election do u? As long as you can get us four more years of marxism anything go's right?

Maybe but the difference between me and you Obama drones is I don't blindly support someone because they have an R next to their name. I hold them accountable as well. Most conservatives do, the same obviously can not be said for the liberal drones.

Of coarse it wasnt illegal.... IT WAS WRONG!!! I hated Bush because he spent money like a liberal. EO's should have never been started. I also do NOT like Romney but we need to get this nutcase out! He doesn't feel good about being elected, he's attempting to buy votes. Soon, if not already, the left wing will be out within a few days calling all non-leftwingers racist, but it isn't racist. It says nothing about immigrants, just illegal immigrants.

I don't know where you live, but the job market is hurting in part due to illegals. Executive order or not, the man is an idiot. How many people in your are do not have health care? Don't you think that all the illegals working are partly responsible for that? I guess it's probably not their fault, just our stupid system that allows them to get away with it. I've seen government raids of the illegals in the work place in my area, and it's funny how most of them don't show up for work that day. Wake up, he's not accomplishing squat!

Especially for the circumstances he mentioned. These are cases in which these kids were brought here at a very young age, lived their entire lives here, and- in some situations- had no idea that they weren't US citizens. Now, as adults, they're given an opportunity to continue to prove their loyalty to this country, and some people still believe that they should be booted to a country that they never knew?

The truth of the matter is, that these individuals mentioned are every bit as AMERICAN as someone who was born on US soil with citizen parents.

"One size fits all." solutions seldom address root causes, while stressing a diminishimg return for the wasted efforts put into short-sighted, knee-jerk reactionary alarmism. Looking inwards before attacking outwards would give us all more sober reflection.

I used to be fairly unsympathetic towards illegal immigrants but my conversion to the Catholic Church has shown me that we need to treat our fellow man with dignity and try to help when we can. Deporting folks under these circumstances is simply wrong.

I have nothing against the young illegals, but at some point the government has to stop rewarding the parents for bringing their children here.

Illegal aliens are just that! "illegal". I'm wondering just how long Congress is going to allow the current _resident to continue to usurp their authority to make law. Last I heard, the _resident is the head of the executive branch of government, not the legislative branch. This is not the first time Obama has totally disregarded the Congress and the Constitution.

Does the US not prosecute criminals years after the crime they have committed, as long as the statue of limitations has not run out? We, as a society, cannot pick and choose which laws we abide by. The government should not be able to pick and choose when/what laws they are going in enforce. Illegal is illegal. They have committed a crime. Prosecute to the extend allowed under the law. It is that simple. Does not matter if they are the PTA president, a pillar of the community, or, sorry to say, serving in our armed forces. Tough stance, yes. Time for the kiddie gloves to come off, and not just on the illegal immigrants issue.
