I never miss an opportunity to say "thank you for your service to America", BIGDAVE! I've been asking a question to everyone I meet who brings up the topic of citizenship. Q? "Describe an American!" No one can! It's only our citizenship that we all have in common! The real question to anyone entering this country should be "do you want to be an American and if your answer is 'yes', then what are you willing to do to earn the privilege of being called an American citizen?" Sound crazy? Not if you ask most Americans! They will say what ever it takes to have the honor. Work hard, obey the laws, be a good citizen for my country, be a good neighbor, a good parent, a good child for my parents, serve my country if asked, pay my "FARE share of taxes" to help others, be willing to learn all I can about my new country's history and, NEVER SAY " FOR THE FIRST TIME I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN"! Also be proud to salute our flag, say the 'Pledge of Allegiance' and sing the National Anthem which has been sung for over 230 years with pride! Welcome to all who truly want to be "an American citizen" May God Bless this great nation and all who want to be 'legal'!

Their were laws in place when your people came over but people cared about human being. You were born from immigrant unless you are native americans. The problem is that the majority has become the minority and they cant take it. Living in a country illegally is still wrong at any age. It sucks that their parents want to stick them in that situation, but you're overcrowding classrooms so that people who aren't legally even supposed to be in the country can have rights.

I personally have no problem with them being there, I just would rather them be citizens. My friend's dad is from Cambodia and is a legal American citizen. My friend was born in this country and is a legal American citizen. They both have the right to be in this country even though his father was born in Cambodia because they did it the legal way.

People who enter this country illegally need to be sent back to their own country or apply for citizenship. I know some people can't afford it, but guess what? Not everyone can afford a nice house. Does that give squatters the right to take over a nice house?

The U.S.A citizens are already going to have competition with the highly educated and hard working Asian immigrants that have been flocking to this country and getting hired by top employers. In fact, the Asian Immigrants now outnumber the Hispanic immigrants, in the U.S. Therefore, if we were to stop deporting young illegal immigrants, not only would this open doors for Amnesty, but it would deplete our jobs even more.

Your cartoon is inaccurate. There are plenty of farms that desperately need to hire workers to harvest their crops but can't find any Americans to take the jobs, resulting in entire crops rotting on the vine.

A problem indeed, but perhaps these farmers only wanted to hire cheap labor. Maybe they could hire supervised men from the jails or prisons.

During WWII, german POWs worked on the farms. I don't see why some of those drug users the libs are always wining are in prison could do this work. It would probably do them some good.

Grandbr, thanks for clearing up the real problems with our agricultural businesses! I thought the reason I've seen so many farms become dry and arid acres of FORMER lush orchards and fields of vegetables and wheat, was because of some tiny little smelt fish that no one has ever heard of!! Oh! that's right, the water had to be stopped in agricultural areas because those with animal love and hate for humans decided to step up and "Here they come to save the day, PETA is on its way!" Or maybe it's because of the need to fill ALL the swimming pools of the celebrities in LA who mock and disdain those who get paid a salary actually worth their talents and work skills. Farmers could and still can get workers who are...ready?... LEGAL!!! How many Americans realize that if some of the farm owners also obeyed the law of hiring only legal immigrants, they could put a halt to many of the illegals in this country. This also applies to all businesses who hire without checking the legal citizenship of the one seeking a job!!

Number one, please show me where I said the issue I referenced was the ONLY one that American farmers are dealing with. I'll save you some time - I didn't. I simply responded directly to a political cartoon that wrongly portrayed a specific situation.

Two, do you dispute the validity of the issue I raised? Are farmers in some areas NOT struggling to find the workers they need to harvest their crops? Are those crops NOT rotting on the vine/branch as a result? And would hiring Americans at a higher payrate NOT translate into higher prices being passed on to the consumers?

Why should illegal Hispanics get such a break to enter this country when European immigrants from over 100 years ago had to fill out legal papers in order to do the same? And don't say that was the same attitude when southern and eastern european immigrants immigrated to our country. Many Eurpean immigrants who came to Ellis Island had to be sent back to their native country if they had some kind of disease. So why should Third World immigrants be given a break? And don't call me a bigot. At my job I work with predominately black and Hispanic people and they're the nicest people you'd ever want to meet they're smart and hard working.

The kids covered by the policy Obama has announced have to do more than simply fill out legal papers. They have to have arrived before they were 16, must have a clean criminal record, must have graduated high school or served in the military, and THEN have to submit legal paperwork every two years for an extension of their work visas.
