Do You Think the U.S. Should Stop Deporting Young Immigrants? (Obama Does)

Barack Obama made headlines Friday as he stated that his administration will no longer deport young illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. when they were children. His announcement, as expected, was met with part-joy and part-skepticism -- as well as a heckler who constantly kept interrupting the president as he spoke.

"These are young people who study in our schools, they play in our neighborhoods, they're friends with our kids, they pledge allegiance to our flag. They are Americans in their heart, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper," the president said in his speech Friday morning. But he was also quick to add that this is not a permanent answer. "This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship... It's not a permanent fix," Obama said. Do you think the U.S. should stop deporting young immigrants?

A long as they're paying tax, it's not like these people are forcing citizens from a job to take their place. I think companies would rather appreciate new talent entering the market to make better selection of employees from.

As long as they work hard and follow the rules... and saying that that could be the opportunity for someone born in there it could be but it´s like saying that if you were born in a country you should live there forever... and how many people go to Europe to have a better chance... beside lets be realistic a lot of those immigrants do jobs that americans doesn´t want to do

Well, if they started out by breaking the rules to get in here in the first place, then that doesn't inspire much confidence that they'll follow the rules going forward, does it? It's like saying, "As long as the people clean up after themselves, replace the food they eat, and don't steal anything, it's ok that they broke into my house and are living in my basement without permission."

That makes no sense whatsoever. The Chinese aren't sneaking into China, or breaking any laws in America by working in China. We have foreign companies manufacturing goods here in the U.S., and Americans work for them. I don't blame the Chinese people, I blame the Americans who shipped the jobs over there.

You are either here in the U.S. legally, or you are not. if you are not, you should be deported.

I'll make it real simple for you. I have no problem with people who immigrate to our country by the proper and legal way. I do have a problem with people who ignore our laws, and enter our country illegally. Allowing them to stay here is a slap in the face to all of the people who have been waiting patiently for years to enter our country legally, and become citizens. We don't owe illegal aliens a damn thing.

If they would do the jobs illegal immigrants do then maybe whole farming communities wouldnt be ruined when they had mass deportations....unfortunately, Americans are unwilling to do these jobs. In that way, illegal immigrants are actually helping our economy.

Since when are Americans unwilling to work in restaurants or do construction jobs? They are even starting their own businesses. Americans are the best workers in the world, and that's why we became such a powerful nation in the first place .I have many friends who have been replaced at their jobs by illegals because scumbag American employers use them. Americans WILL do those jobs, but they can't afford to do them for the extremely low wages illegals are willing to accept.

Wow, it AMAZES me how many people really know nothing about illegal immigrant populations. SURE, some of them end up in better jobs as you have discussed. However, most end up in agricultural jobs, doing farming, working at barns, etc. Its hard work, incredibly long days and very low pay. Americans don't want to do these types of jobs.....and if they are willing to do it, they want more than minimum wage (who can blame them) which the employers in these positions cannot afford to pay. Hence why illegal immigrants fill these positions. I have a horse and have been to MANY barns in the past where illegal immigrants worked. The pay was ALWAYS the same, whether legal or illegal. The difference was that the citizens didn't want to work as hard as the illegal immigrants, didn't want to work the hours/the holidays (etc) for low pay. At one barn I went to, the employees were CONSTANTLY changing....no one stayed in the job for more than a few months. That is until a incredibly hard working illegal immigrant was hired. He worked his ass off, was willing to do TRIPLE the work of ANY of the legal workers we had had over the years and stayed for the remainder of my time there (3 years). For all I know, he is still there. He was a much better, much more consistant and much more...

His work ethic was amazing and should be appreciated instead of ridiculed. And as someone who boarded there and worried about the constant flow of new stable hands, it was VERY NICE to know there was ONE person there who knew the job, knew the horses and would get things done.

Just because you had your experience with illegals doesn't mean that those who have had quite a different experience with them, "really know nothing about illegal immigrant populations". You live in a different world than most people. You shouldn't speak that way until you've had the same experiences as other people have had. What you say would make sense if ALL they were doing was farm work, but that is very far from reality.

I have MANY friends in the construction and restaurant business who are out of work right now directly because unscrupulous employers have resorted to hiring illegals, and it was NOT because the illegals work any harder than anyone else. It was simply because they can pay them dirt cheap wages, and it isn't always because the employer can't afford to pay good wages either. They do it because they can get away with it. They can also treat them whatever way they want to, and abuse them, because the illegals are afraid to speak up from fear of deportation. Once one of them hires illegals, the rest have to do the same because they can't outbid the others for jobs. It's a vicious cycle. There are a lot of young people who can't get jobs in restaurants because they are taken by illegals.

I stopped going to a couple of the car washes around here because the Hispanic workers are lazy and do a terrible job on your car. Illegals are just like any other group of people. Some work hard, and some don't. If you went to a sporting event in my city, after the game, you would see that the entire clean up crews are all Americans, mostly African-American. It is a very filthy job for very low pay, so please don't tell me that Americans aren't willing to do hard jobs. I see them doing them every day. Who do you think was doing all the jobs illegals are doing today before the illegals were hired?

I never said that within ia population there arent those who work hard and those who dont. But as a general rule (statistically, not just my opinion) illegal immigrants are willing to work longer harder hours than the average american.

Many places will no longer hire illegal immigrants because of the crack down on illegal hiring. Places where I used to see illegal immigrants hired are no longer hiring them at least in the state I live in and the ones I travel to. The only jobs available for illegals are the really bad under the table jobs.
There are plenty of regular jobs available around here, plenty...but no one wants to work long hard hours for $7 an hour. People want $15-$20. So because of this, I see tons of fast food joints and stores looking for help which are not being filled. I have seen a couple of smaller buninesses close down because they couldn't afford to hire people at the prices they wanted.

And fyi, I didn't say that no Americans are willing to do hard jobs, but many Americans are unwilling to do hard jobs that involve heavy labor or if they do do them they expect higher pay.

Also, do you think that illegal immigration is a new issue or something? The jobs I am discussing have been filled by illegal immigrants for decades.
  • activ1 Laura 2012/06/24 03:45:38

No, you never said Americans aren't willing to do hard jobs, but you never said that they ARE willing to either. Americans have always done hard labor. Who the hell was doing it before the illegals were there? Like I said, if the ONLY thing illegals were doing was picking fruit and mucking stalls, it wouldn't be so much of a problem, but they are filling far more jobs than that, and even running their own businesses and competing with Americans.

Why shouldn't Americans expect to be paid a fair wage for working long hours at a job that requires hard work? You are just assuming that the employers "can't afford" to pay Americans a decent wage. It may be true in some cases, but in others, they could easily afford it, but choose not to as long as they can get illegals to do it for far less. The illegals work whatever hours they are forced to work. If the boss tells them to work, they work. They have no one to complain about it to, and the employers know it.

The illegals I see are in Chicago doing drive by shootings, drawing welfare and selling drugs. I guess your illegal is better then our illegals. You got lucky. Want to trade?

Illegal immigrants around here are not like that. The good thing is that the illegal immigrants you mention are the kind that immigration will hopefully be focusing their resources on. They definitely don't fall under the category of hard working, patriotic and law abiding such as the vast majority of the ones here.
  • LisaSmith Laura 2012/06/22 15:47:14

Where are you from? I know in my area that they are taking construction jobs from Americans who have always done those jobs. I also know that a huge portion are drawing welfare in one form or another and that identity theft by stealing our SS numbers is a huge problem even though our government refuses to admit it.

I'm from ny(I don't want to say specific area). Illegal immigrants around here work hard and typically work the jobs no one wants. They tend to keep quiet and try to avoid issues that could get them noticed and deported. I am sure there are some that are not like this, but the things you talk about are not a huge issue here.

Illegals from Terrorist Nations are Crossing the Border into Arizona
Tom McNamara and the Eyewitness News 4 Investigators have spent the last three months talking to experts and eyewitnesses.

The stories are compelling and the evidence is frightening, and just this week, Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo released a report showing that the problem is worse than anyone thought.

Here's what the Eyewitness News 4 Investigators uncovered.

"It's a Muslim prayer blanket. It was found about a mile and a half west from the Douglas port of entry in 2001."

Larry Vance is a rancher who lives near the U.S.-Mexico border in Douglas, Arizona.

For years, he says he's watched - and documented - thousands of illegals crossing the border and running away to eventual arrest... or freedom and anonymity somewhere in this country.

And in just one hour, during this stake-out along the border between Douglas and Bisbee, The Investigators count 198 illegals in five different groups crossing into the U.S. with no resistance.

Watch as they huddle in the bushes, then climb thru a few strands of barbed wire and run for freedom.

We called Border Patrol and waited another full hour, but no one ever came.

Later, we checked Border Patrol logs which note agents being dispatched following our call, but also note those agents found no signs of activity in the area.

"In recent years," Vance says, "the evidence some illegals leave behind is alarming."

Vance says, "Other log books, diary-type things, other bits and pieces of paper with Arabic written on them found in the area over the last few years."

We've all heard of the U.S. government's Terror Watch List: countries flagged because Americans are endangered by their citizens, yet regularly, illegals from those countries are crossing the Arizona border, blending in with groups of Mexican and South American illegal immigrants.

If apprehended, they are brought to this federal detention center in Florence, Arizona.

The investigators found that on this day, several individuals of this kind were being detained here, including some from Sudan, Iran, and even Iraq.

These are just the ones who were caught.

These detainees are called 'other than Mexicans' or OTM's. Most will eventually be sent back to their home country.

But some disappear very quickly, usually before they even reach this center or other holding facilities. They're taken away by tight-lipped federal agents to who-knows-where.

Who are they? They're called "Special Interest Aliens" or "SIA."

According to Ben Anderson, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, The SIA that they don't want to talk about. That's special interest alien. These are people from those countries that we consider terrorist threats."

Anderson is a retired U.S. Army Colonel who tracks illegal immigration from his home in Sierra Vista, Arizona. He has a website sharing his research into Special Interest Aliens.

"You will not read about that. You will not hear about that. They will not talk about that. They will not provide that info to the press."

Colonel Anderson says these Special Interest Aliens originate in the Middle East or Northeast Asia. They travel through Spain to what's called the tri-border area of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, then, to Mexico City.

They pay to learn Spanish language skills, and by the time they reach the U.S., they're acting and talking like Mexicans to fool border agents.

And, Anderson says, "They're entering the United States right through our backyard. "This is the main alley. It's called 'Cocaine Alley' or 'Terrorist Alley.' Whatever you want to call it, Arizona is the prime place."

"Cochise County is the center. It's the point of gravitus, center of gravity for all illegals," says Anderson.

Anderson says some Special Interest Aliens are well-funded. paying tens of thousands of dollars to be smuggled into this country. They manage to get passports from non-terrorist nations.

And here's the shocking part: if they are caught, they are often released on their own recognizance, never to be seen again.

According to Retired Border Patrol Agent David Stoddard, "There are Middle Easterners coming across the border as we speak."

Stoddard agrees with Anderson. Stoddard spent 17 years as a Border Patrol agent and supervisor in the Tucson Sector before retiring.

"What's scary is that I can show you places out here on the line right now where 18-wheelers can be driven across."

"These 18-wheelers can be loaded with anything -- illegal aliens, atomic weapons, whatever."

Stoddard says Americans would be shocked if they knew just how many people from all over the world are getting into this country across the Arizona border. And he says we're even less safe from terrorism today than we were before 9/11.

Take for example, the capture of terrorist suspect Jose Padilla. The Justice Department says Padilla and an accomplice planned to enter the U.S. thru Mexico to blow up apartment buildings in major cities, like New York.

Or the case of suspected al-Qaeda sleeper agent Mohammed Junaid Babar.

Babar has told investigators of a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border. He's tied to a terror plot to carry out bombings and assassinations in London.

And the Tombstone Tumbleweed newspaper reports that in June, 53 Middle Eastern men were apprehended by Border Patrol agents near Willcox.

It's believed they were from Iran or Syria.

Stoddard says, "It's the ones who are sneaking into our country under cover of darkness between our ports of entry that concern me and should concern every American.

Border Patrol Council President T.J. Bonner says, "You don't know what is getting by you unless you come across, as you said, small pieces of evidence, remnants of things that give you clues, that not everybody is coming across from mexico looking for a job."

Bonner knows exactly who and what current agents are uncovering along our border and he has a dire warning:

"It's only a matter of time before another terrorist attack occurs, unfortunately."

Some in Congress are starting to take notice of the threat. Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo released a report that revealed a 50% increase in OTMs, illegals Other Than Mexicans, crossing the border.

Tancredo says some illegals from terrorist nations are paying as much as $50,000 to be smuggled in. He says they're not paying that kind of money simply to work at a 7/11.
