Tay-Sachs developed from jewish communities that would intermarry close to ones own family over many generations because they did not want to have non jewish blood in their lines. Repeating these incestuous actions forces deliterious genetic traits and defects to become more likely and common.
The funny thing is people that come from a similar root area, with the exception of central eastern africa, are genetically very similar, proving that the root of all minkind is from this region.
