I'm not sure there's been a ruling where the Justices decided one part of the Constitution was more important than the other parts. Usually if it violated the Constitution, it was just tossed out. Everyone knew Obamacare violated the Commerce Clause, so the Justices just randomly re-defined what this thing actually was and decided Congress's ability to tax something trumped the Commerce Clause.
I know that flies over everyone's heads here, but this is serious doodoo. Now all Congress has to do is pass a tax and anything they want is peachy-keen with the Supreme Court. That's flipping crazy.
Do you think the Founders are rolling around in their graves right now?

WE'VE SEEN OUR/THE GOVERNMENT BECOME CROUPT AND WE HAVE NOT
RESPONDED! OUR FOUNDERS WOULD BE 'ASHAMED OF US/WE THE PEOPLE'!!
Antonin Scalia is completely out of control. He is so political and activist that he doesn't even try to hide it. He runs with the Koch crowd, attends ALEC meetings, goes hunting with Cheney, then rules 5 days later in favor of Cheney, when Cheney was sued for not allowing the names of the oil companies to become public, which he met with them secretly. Also he blasted Obama on immigration. If he wants to be political, resign from the Supreme court, and run for congress or the presidency.
This right wing court, when polled, has the lowest favor ability, in modern times, and it's because they are so activist and political. The anointing of W in 2000. the Citizen United ruling, and now this ruling. These 5 don't even try and hide their hypocricy. The dissenters in the Arizona immigration ruling stuck there nose in the air and proclaimed states rights. Then the same day, they...

The dissenters in the Arizona immigration ruling stuck there nose in the air and proclaimed states rights. Then the same day, they ruled against Montana for their hundred years of law banning corporate money to flood local and state elections. The 5 right wingers on the court got right down snooty with Montana telling them Citizen United was federal law, and Montana has no states rights to have their own law. Yeah the Founders are turning over in their grave with these 5 activist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Yup. That pretty much nails it.
"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." – Thomas Jefferson (1801)
What we have today is not capitalism, but a mix of crony capitalism, corrupted socialism, and plutocracy. Jefferson's fear of central banks as the corrupter of government and the road to excessive control of the free marketplace has now come true. Our government and our legal system no longer works to restrain men (including banks and corporations) from injuring each other (through corrupt practices, false allegations, and financial power). Today, money rules, and the banks have no restrictions that are enforceable to restrain their excess and tyranny over the marketplace.
Once you introduce the human factor it perverts everything
I agree that plutocracy is what we have now although it operates somewhat under the radar.
I refer to it as Fascism lite. Pay no attention to the man. . . . .
Money rules as it always has. That's the failure of all monetary systems.
Besides being exploitative capitalism must continually expand or it collapses. Expansion requires cyclical consumption which makes it not only wasteful but destructive to society and the environment.
It's completely unsustainable. Calling it an economy is something of a misnomer. It economizes nothing and you can't solve problems with the same level of thinking that created them.
As Jefferson stated, governments exist to restrain the worst of human nature, to protect under law each man's rights to the fruits of his own labor.
Capitalism is the most wasteful and destructive force on the planet and is still unsustainable. It's the exploitation to exhaustion of everything under the sun for short term monetary gain and you want to go back to business as usual?
Isn't that what got us here?
Change is inevitably a part of human nature, a part of the natural world. How we deal with change as the intelligent species on earth is the issue.
Capitalism is no more wasteful or destructive than all the other economic system theories. Free markets are responsive to change. Markets that are controlled by corrupt government, corrupt rulers of any stripe, and by emotional basis decision-making are not.
Stop research and development? Don't be ridiculous
I agree that all govt is corrupt but planned obsolescence ensures wasted resources.
We make up less than 5% of the population yet consume 25% of the resources and produce 30% of the pollution.
Capitalism most definitely does waste and destroy more and the environmental risk increases exponentially.
What do you think got us here in the first place?
Like I said, you can't solve problems using the same level of thinking that created them. Going back to business as usual is inane.
Population in this country is increasing, not by birth rates of the majority of its citizens, but by the influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal, and their offspring. The average birth rate of the primarily white population has been below the rate needed to keep the population steady for years.
