Since the KKK does not use the stars and bars as their chosen symbol, it makes one wonder if any of your posts are true, if you are just ignorant on the subject, or if you just post untruths on purpose.

    What flag is that?

That, my uninformed friend, is the confederate battle flag, not the stars and bars which was the forst offical flag of the confederate states.

    Stars and Bars

Although less well known than the "Confederate Battle Flags",the Stars and Bars was used as the official flag of the Confederacy from March 1861 to May of 1863. The pattern and colors of this flag did not distinguish it sharply fom the Stars and Stripes of the Union. Consequently, considerable confusion was caused on the battlefield.

    That's up to you.

Many believe that the South had a legal right to secede (just as the 13 colonies seceded from Great Britain) and that Lincoln's war on the Confederate States of America was nothing but an act of aggression on a sovereign nation (just like the Revolutionary War). If you support the north's role in the War for Southern Independence, then you must have sided with Great Britain in the Revolutionary War.

The colonies were COLONIES with no say in the British Government, not a part of Great Britain. the relationships are quite different.

Sure it is. The Confederate flag symbolizes the racism of slavery and Seperate But Equal laws. So, grow up already and scratch off those Confederate decals from your pick up trucks.

For the fourth time, YES. Some Cherokee bands owned black slaves.

For the fourth time, very few Cherokee owned slaves (just as very few African Americans owned slaves), most were opposed to slavery.

Separate but equal Jim Crow laws didn't occur until after the War for Southern Independence ended. It was created by the Democrats to subjugate blacks.

After LBJ signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Law the southern Democrats switched to the Republican Party. "Splain that.

The flags we fly are all symbols of our various ideologies and respective heritage. Old glory was a symbol not only to the King of England but to the people who would learn to pledge allegiance to it, that the people living on this continent would no longer be subjugated by a monarch who was thousands of miles away (Although Im not so sure England received this message, but I digress).

The confederate flag was a symbol that the white land and slave owners within the southern colonies, would not be part of any system of government that would change the status quo. These people are proud of the fact that they owned land and humans and they would like to keep their "heritage" alive. Is it racist you ask? HELL YEAH!!! Its like a small group of Germans claiming its their heritage to wear swastikas. Having said that. This is the land of the free, So fly your racist propaganda all you want. The year is 2012. I am not my grandfather,my son is not me. Yet we are all unimpressed.

I remember hearing about this a few years ago. History channel or Natgeo. It was not the entire Cherokee nation as they're were Union Cherokee as well. The move was political not Idelogical for them. The majority of Cherokee supported abolishing slavery, opposed the South, and formed an association known as the “Pin Indians.” They identified themselves by a pair of crossed pins under their coat lapels. The conferate Cherokee fought because of promises made to them for land secuity and what not.

-That's my point. If the Confederate Battle Flag represented slavery, why would the Cherokee have flown it when they opposed slavery?

You sound as if your saying the south was not fighting to maintain slavery. Is that what Im hearing?
Not all Cherokee supported abolition, those that fought with the confederates obviously cared nothing about freedom for all, they wanted what was promised to them by the southern leaders who wooed them with promises of land, livestock and weapons.

You seem to forget that the issue of slavery was not even mentioned until months after the war was in play, and then it was mentioned as a cover for Northern agression against the South.

If the war was to free the slaves, why then did the Union not free all their slaves at the begining, or during, the war, and admit West Virginia as a slave state after Southern secession had already began?

"You sound as if your saying the south was not fighting to maintain slavery. Is that what Im hearing?"
-My point is that the Confederacy stood for many other things that had nothing to do with slavery. Do you realize that many Confederate leaders, such as Robert E. Lee opposed slavery?

    "Not all Cherokee supported abolition"
-Not all of anyone supported abolition. 75% of northerners didn't care if the South continued slavery or not; they were worried about territorial and economic loss.

"those that fought with the confederates obviously cared nothing about freedom for all"
-The Cherokee generally opposed slavery as well as the famous Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

"they wanted what was promised to them by the southern leaders who wooed them with promises of land, livestock and weapons."
-That was certainly a factor in why they joined the Confederacy, but it was their first real opportunity to be treated with respect by Americans.

I hit undecided. It can be, if that is why it was hung. But if it was hung for pride in your home state or as a symbol of states rights or what ever, no. Symbols do not have inherent meanings. That is why satanists wear the upside down cross, which was originally the sign of St. Peter, who asked to by crucified upside down in humbleness to Christ.
