Not if they don't want them in their organization. It's a private group and they have the right to refuse to accept anyone they don't want. That's what freedom is all about. I don't agree with their views, but I'm also not in charge of their organization. So they can do what they want to do.

2 problems here. First, just because it's legal doesn't mean its right. Maybe the scouts can be bigots, but they shouldn't. Second, they aren't a private group because they receive federal funding.

If the 2nd issue is true, that they receive Federal funding, then no, they have no right to refuse anyone.

On the first issue, I never said it was "right" to discriminate, I said it was legal IF they are a private organization.

The question is about if Boy Scouts SHOULD let in gays. Its important to remember that there is a difference between what should be allowed under the law, and what is morally justified for an individual to do. I agree that if they were truly private (which they aren't) they would have every right to exclude gays. But regardless of legality they shouldn't, because doing so is immoral.

As long as they are accepting government money, help, and discounts, they should let gays in, if they stop doing that then they can refuse entrance to anyone they want.

Everybody on earth should be treated with equal respect. Some are treating gay people as bad as the people of color were treated years ago. Having separate drinking fountains, sitting at the back of the bus. Were all on this planet together, like it or not, so we shouldn't have separate rules because someone has a different color than you, or a different sexual preference. Treat others as you want to be treated, period!

I think the By Scouts should let in anyone that wants in if they are the proper age. This same problem occurred way back in the early 1900's when blacks wanted their spot in the Boy Scouts as well. White bigots attempted to stop them too, but people of color prevailed.

That too. I was a Boy Scout myself, and finding out about this controversy was very sad. It makes the troop at the community level look bad. I'm glad my troop was dedicated enough to the scout oath and law to ignore the bigots.

Do I think they should let in GBTQ group leaders? YES
Do I think they should let in GBTQ scouts? YES.

Who's business is it anyway?? I mean, parent's are probably going to find out if a group leader is GBTQ, but the KIDS? What, before a child joins do you expect them to be sat down and asked if they want to kiss boys? Give me a break!

What's wrong with gay boy scouts? I think gay men make better men than straight men. Just an opinion. But the fact is EQUALITY. It isn't right to not let someone in something because of who they love. That would be like someone being told their child isn't allowed in school because they are only really good in one subject.

Hey, as a straight guy, I can't disagree with you. I have found that Gay Men are much better at most things over straight guys. and no, I am not talking about being hair dressers of interior design experts. I mean on a human level. All of the friends that I have are wonderful people. They are kind, considerate of others, are very hard to piss off, intelligent, and really have love for humanity. This is the polar opposite of the idiot red neck hill billies that attack them every day of their lives.

They should be free to admit, or exclude, whomever they want. I'm sure NAMBLA would take issue with this. Would Barney Frank make a good scoutmaster?

if the BSA wants to be homophobic and exclude gay people it is certainly free to do that. it is NOT entitled to receive taxpayer dollars or advantageous benefits from the state or federal governments - that would give preferential treatment to private organizations that discriminate against American citizens and taxpayers ...

when it is permitted to use city, state of federal facilities at no cost, it receives an economic benefit of governmental resources.

Absolutel not. I was a Scout and a Scout leader. There is not a single reason why these young children should be placed at risk of the sexual perversions of either leaders or peers. If "gays" want to start a similar experience to scouting, let them do so. But, I would
have left the group had any leader reached into my shorts, or beat the crap out of a peer who moved on me in the shower. There is much to do and worry about when children are placed in the hands of others, and this isn't a risk that needs to be added.
