Do you think that private companies are better suited to run a local water or sewer utility than a local government?

Of course private companies will be better suited to run utilities than local governments. Local govt run utility entities are susceptible to corruption, fraud and personal petty grievances against customers. Local govt is not profit oriented and has much red tape associated with its operation. Local government running utility companies is a terrible idea. When something breaks, private run companies get it fixed with little loss of service, govt run companies don't care when they get things fixed, they get paid the same no matter what.

Private companies know how to cut costs, save money, keep expenses down and turn a profit. City and coutny run facilities, cannot do any of those things, all they do is bow to the unions, spend the collections elsewhere, raise prices while lowering services and provide a lower quality product at a higher cost.

I have a private company that runs my trash disposal. They do a great job! The government has no incentive to do a good job at anything. They can't get easily fired, they don't benefit from profits, they usually don't have competition....

I'm all for small Government and am no fan of the current admin. When it comes to water supply in today's environment, I think the gov't needs to manage it....for security reasons.

Hey, I'm not saying the Gov't is perfect. We still get on planes. Remember, once the Obama experiment is over then maybe my idea will make more sense.

Fluoride exists naturally in water sources and is derived from fluorine, the thirteenth most common element in the Earth's crust. It is well known that fluoride helps prevent and even reverse the early stages of tooth decay.

For over 60 years, water fluoridation has proved to be a safe and cost-effective way to reduce dental caries. Today, water fluoridation is estimated to reduce tooth decay by 20-40%. As of 2002, the CDC statistics show that almost 60% of the U.S. population receives fluoridated water through the taps in their homes. Some communities have naturally occurring fluoride in their water; others add it at water-processing plants.

Opponents of water fluoridation have questioned its safety and effectiveness; however, there has been little evidence to support these claims.

Here in France, many towns and cities are starting to take over local water utility, private companies are WAY too expensive, and don't always do the job. They are only interested in the profits.

Our local government has known for 20 years that it needed to upgrade several things, and they raised fees to cover that and yet, nothing. Now it HAS to be done to prevent a federal EPA fine, and they are raising fees again, and talking about quadruple increase or more. Meanwhile, the employees get generous salaries and bonuses and paid sick/vacation and other comp time. So, governments cannot run anything effectively.
