Please!The man was nominated for the award 12 days after he took office, but the judges "found his *promises* too good to ignore." Oh, boy, is that rich. Yes, if the Nobel Peace Prize is about promises, not actual achievement, as so many of us have been led to believe, I guess Obama does deserve the honor. To paraphrase a statement of Winston Churchill, who was apparently too busy winning World War II to make enough "promises" to win the Nobel Peace Prize, "Never in the annals of Nobel history have so many promises been made to so many without any means or intention of backing them up."

I'm wondering who these five Norwegians guys are who decide who wins the award. What do they know that everyone else in the world doesn't know?

Name someone who better deserves this peace award then an American President. It’s better for us as a nation to have this recognition, then some other country. And I believe that the path that Obama is on, is a more peaceful then what most leaders are on.
From reading some of these comments, most of these bloggers can’t process their short-term memory. Allow me to remind them of what Obama has peacefully accomplished in just 9 months of his administration. He has done more peaceful things during these few months, then President Bush had did in 8 years of his administration. Here is just a few things that he has accomplished so far:
1) Obama is in the process of closing the Gutonomo bay prison.
2) He helped Clinton to rescue 2 American reporters from N. Korea (Airforce 1)
3) He helped to resolve an argument with a professor and a police officer during a beer summit.
4) Opening up peaceful communications between Israel and Iran.
5) Pulling back American soldiers from Iraq and allow that nation to rebuild from our cruel terrine .
6) Saved the world economy from totally collapsing

Is that enough things, or should I continue with this long list of accomplishments?
There is a reason why Democrats are the only party who achieves this award, because they are more peaceful then the Republican Party

If "Gutonomo," as you call it, closes, we will have these terrorists inside our country ready to be released here (of course they would fit right in Chicago or Detroit.) He certainly hasn't saved the world economy. He has single-handedly put us in debt by shoveling money out the window to nar-do-wells. No wonder other countries, e.g. Russia, is licking their chops. Saving two Americans from N. Korea was not done by him at all. We have many prisoners around the world-these two women were high profile cases that gleaned the Dems lots of attention. I wonder ho much under the table money it costs us? We are once again headed into another Viet Nam situation under another Dem President - Johnson screwed us once - now Obama. Get an education so you can really think about what is happening in the world and not think like a narrow-minded Blue-Dog Democrat.

There were some good people who were passed over this year, including two Chinese Dissidents and a Physician who build a hospital for the poor in the Congo. I think that someone who actually DOES SOMETHING deserves more than a freshman President.

Only being a sitting president for a couple of weeks....this man has done nothing but spend money and talk....and promise...not his fault he won but the Noble Peace Prize in NOT something I will ever look up to again....NO HE did NOT deserve this!

Like it or not they gave him the award. But this is not for a lifetime achievement for peace. This was given to him because while he was campaigning in Prague in Aug 2008 he told them he would reduce our arsenals.

Obama has single handedly accomplished bringing America back to the table.... Our country had become the laughing stock of the free world under GWB the saber rattling Decider. We were then looked at more as terrorists than leaders. Obama has turned that around in 8 short months! Not only that but he has taken America from being number 7 in 2008 of the most admired nations to number 1 in 2009. America has much to be thankful for.... B. Obama being one of them.
