More candidates have waited until after nomination to announce a running mate. A lot of logrolling goes on in the caucuses. It is normally beneficial to hold your options open.

Not sure how it will effect his chances but I am guessing he picks the VP from one of five general categories.

1.) A woman (Kelly Ayotte)
2.) A man (something strategic like a swing state)
2.) A dark skinned minority (Bobby Jindal).
3.) Someone from the Budget Committee (Paul Ryan).
4.) Or Jeb Bush (too soon for another Bush?)
