Erm... You helped save us in two world wars... That's all we have to be grateful for. What we shouldn't be grateful for is your incessant meddling with the rest of the world, the exportation of your culture which has started an obesity epidemic, your aggravating of the Middle East, your domination over everything, you running most of the UN so it always goes along with your harebrained schemes to 'improve the world' that always end with a war, a dictator and another country that hates you, the fact that you have set up dictators in half the countries in the world, in fact you set up a dictator twice in Cuba and you nearly caused a nuclear war because of it, and your undercover medical programmes that are ten times worse than anything the Germans or Japanese did, indeed, Hitler got his inspiration from American experiments. So we're very grateful for you for everything you've done, it's just countered by your attitude and the way you lord it over everyone else. Kind of like the British Empire did... In fact, what you are saying is the same as us saying Africa, India and the Indigenous peoples of Australia and New Zealand should be grateful for what we've done for them...

No, I think they should probably stop with the jealousy (because there's really no reason for it) and stand on their own feet and take pride in themselves, America doesn't do anything for anyone without looking for a gigantic gain for themselves. So nothing to be grateful for.

..jealous of the USA? Why? We're so divided by rich and (mostly) poor that we're collapsing from within, and most of the world hates us because we've become so greedy and rapacious and all so the 1% get richer (and the 99% of the taxpayers foot the bill.) We start wars just to take what others have (like in Iraq and Afghanistan; isn't that what hitler did to the French, the Poles, the Russians, and all of Europe generally?)

Foreign people are hardly "jealous" of the US. They are much more informed about world events and aren't quite as dumbed down as we are. The ignorance inherrent in this question screams of just how dumbed down some Americans are. I feel quite sorry for you and I hope the people from other countries who frequent this site will not assume that we all are like you. I apologize to all of them for this question.

I'm from Canada and I'm not really all that jealous of the United States as I love going there for road trips, meeting new people, and seeing the sights. As yes you've helped in many wars, and conflicts but in all the USA reminds me of the modern version of the Roman Empire in many ways.

As the fall of that empire occurred from within, much in the same way policies, practices, and beliefs from within are crippling your nation. I can only hope change can be made as I have a vested interest as I share the North American continent with you.

The main reason I'm not jealous has to do with whenever I have to go to an American hospital as I'm on vacation for whatever reason and I use my benefit card to get medical attention it blows me away how many people follow me to ask me what card I am using and what it costs to have.

Going to the doctor should not lead to personal bankruptcy, for that fact I am far from jealous. As your nation is beautiful, the people are great to be around, but things have to be fixed.

I think we should let them all kill each other and feed and house our own. Do you think our government really has foreign peoples welfare in mind when we intervene or is it that our government wants to cash in on foreign resources and all the time forgetting the out on their luck homeless family in America. I love my country but I hate the way its ran.

Or perhaps people who have had their family members categorized as 'collateral damage'. Not worshipping the US does not equate to being ill informed. In fact, worshiping of America is what results from having nothing but "rah, rah, America #1" propaganda to work with.

If envy is on decline its because the Republic is on the decline. But arrogance is at an all time high.
  • Don Leuty David H... 2012/06/17 05:47:24
    Don Leuty
Political correctness has its own rewards. Calling incidental casualties collateral damage, while it may be accurate, it diminishes the death and diminishes all. It also puts a little whitewash on the ugly face of war. War is nasty, ugly and terrible beyond belief and to be avoided if at all possible.

However, should it become necessary, it should be disposed of quickly and decisively. Tiptoing daintily to avoid offending someone only gets our youngsters killed and wounded. Innocent civilians have always been collateral victims. Precise munitions have reduced the casualties to the smallest percentage in history. The US forces do not target civilians. Unfortunately, many of our recent foes have attacked them directly and used them as shields. Using them as shields makes them prime candidates for becoming a battlefield statistic.

Like it or not, the prime rule battle is to make the other guy give his life for cause. If he cowardly enemy hides behind women and children, he is more to blame than our soldier. That is not "Rah, rah", that is just the way it is.
  • David H... Don Leuty 2012/06/17 08:00:04

No, the unfortunate thing is that the troops are even there in the first place. There is NOBODY responsible for the deaths over there other than the soldier who kills them. And I would trade the life of every single soldier if it would return the life of one innocent.

Innocent civilians have indeed always suffered in war, but in the last century the ratio of combatant to civilian casualties has reversed itself. now it is the civilians who take the brunt of military action and this whole bullchit about "anything to protect the troops" is disgusting. That incident when the Apache gunned down a whack of innocents on the ground that somewhere, possibly, maybe one of the soldiers was under threat... Grrrrrrrr.

But as I referred to before its a matter of them not even having any moral authority to be there in the first place. Get the damned mercenaries out of foreign lands and neither they nor their civilian victims will be dying.

9//11 works for me. Perhaps you would ha preferred we kick ass, take names and leave a vacuum to fill itself. We had the moral high ground on this one. 4000 innocent civilians died without a single combatant in sight. That boat won't float.

Yes, a bunch of Saudis killed 2600 people (not 4000) and you proceed to incade and occupy Afghanistan and Iraq. Going into Afghanistan after Bin Laden had dome legitimacy, overthrowing its government, installing a puppet and occupying the country did not. And there was absolutely no justification for going to Iraq. That makes every single person who has died there due to your actions a victim of murder, and everyone who participated a war criminal. What 'moral high ground' does the tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousand dead innocents at your hands in Iraq give them? What are they entitled to do to you in retribution?

I would have preferred you hadn't been messing around with their lives in the first place, then you wouldn't have had the pin prick of 9/11. All in all, if the US would just mind its own damned business instead of playing imperialist dictator there would be millions of people alive today who are not. Please, please STOP trying to 'help'

And the Canucks were harmed, how?
  • David H... Don Leuty 2012/06/18 00:50:51
    David Hussey
Resorting to deflection Don? Okay, if you don't wish to address the points I guess I can understand that.

How have 'Canucks' been harmed? Certainly in being dragged into the ever changing NATO mission in Afghanistan we have been greatly harmed. Not only has there been the loss of blood, the innocents killed, the squandering of as yet unknown amounts of the public treasury, but the standing of Canada in the international community has forever been tarnished as a result. No longer are we the peacekeepers, we are now just one more of the crusading aggressors.
  • Don Leuty David H... 2012/06/18 05:38:24
    Don Leuty
Ahh, that explains the use for the Marxist, "Imperial" remarks. As a British subject, you object to the relatively close relationship to us cowboys. While you may not feel like a peacekeeper, never fear, history will record you as a peacemaker who took the Jihadists to task.

Thank goodness, the commonwealth serves at the pleasure of the monarchy. Democracy prevails over the religious fundamentalists who detest and despise it.

Your history might, but the truth of the matter is all we have done is killed a whole bunch of people who never did us any wrong. people who for centuries have known nothing but one foreigner after another seeking to impose their will upon them. And we, like all the ones who preceded us will leave that land with our tails between our legs, proclaiming our 'victory' every step of he way.
