I don't know about most cities but I know Boston and it's always had a very strong Democratic party connection. I think that any city that has a high black or Hispanic, Irish, Italian populations would tend to go Democratic not because of any welfare issues but because the Democratic Party is for the people, not the corporations and not the billionaires. Boston also has a lot of students who vote here and many Boston neighborhoods are occupied by well educated, young professionals who tend to be more liberal and progressive and therefore Democrats. I suspect that a lot of large cities are like that, a mix of diverse ethnic backgrounds, levels of education and professions.

just notice that the red areas in most states are around cities. Obama was given to us by the dependency class centered in the urban areas.

Obama knows this and will focus his efforts in re-election in the cities. I doubt very seriously he will spend personal face time with the people in fly over country.

NO, The root of the problem has always been your congressman, they have the power to transfer wealth to give to people that may not be doing well or having hard times. The congressman use this as a tool, so the people that are dependent on a government help will vote for them and keep them in power.
Iam not saying that Americans that need help shouldn't get help but the system is being abused and since its taxpayer money congress could careless.

I live in public housing now due to the fact that I am disabled. I live among many people who fit the description in the question. People haven't been very nice to me as I am viewed as an outsider. I was angry for a long time, but I have come to see that there is still an oppression in the people here. A hopelessness that is a residual of slavery and Dread Scott, Jim Crow etc. Of course people here would want to vote for someone who will make sure that they continue to receive their aid and programs. In my self interest I am tempted to follow suit.

Well, generally, inner city folk tend to be liberal, and country folk tend to be conservative....just an observation.

But I don't think it has anything to do with welfare...Not all democrats rely on welfare.

Blacks need to change their culture. They have to quit hating Whitey, quit being too cool for school and learn that they need to be self sufficient. The democrats have set up a Nanny state for them and they forgot how to take care of themselves .Killing Black babies won't solve anything. Stop rewarding bad behavior would do more.

No unfortunately the vast majority of them don't vote at all. If it were only that simple. And your comments are a little biased. Do you believe that the poor are only Democrats. I am sorry to disappoint you but I have met plenty of low wage people and even none working people who are ex-military, gun nuts, religious people who are socially conservative, etc.etc. Yes, for the most part most working people identify with Democrats but by far not enough.

Many young women don't want to get married, go to college, get a job, but like to have sex and babies for a check in the mail. This has to stop. California is the only state with 5 years of welfare. Other states have 2 years. I think 3 years should be enough to get a trade.That would cut the deficit of California and eliminate over spending. Europe makes welfare recipients pay their welfare back, to their country, when they get a job. We can do that here, too. Democrats give too freely out of the pockets of the working public. We all need to work. Even if it is a low paying job. Handicap and elderly are the exceptions.
