Do You Think President Obama’s Plan to Return 5 Percent of His Salary Is a Good Idea?

President Obama will return 5 percent of his salary to the Treasury Department, a senior White House official tells ABC News, a sign of solidarity with the federal workers who face furloughs due to the sequester cuts.

“The president has decided that to share in the sacrifice being made by public servants across the federal government that are affected by the sequester, he will contribute a portion of his salary back to the Treasury,” a White House aide said.

The president’s salary is set by law at $400,000 a year, and he will give back about $20,000 this year. The 5 percent cut is the same reduction level that non-defense federal agencies took when the sequester started.

POSEUR .. CHEAPSKATE .. just for publicity solely ..

Here's the problem I have with this ..
after raising the Rates of TRICARE .. Medicare .. the premiums in the DOUBLE DIGITS (and for TriCare it was two increases in costs) .. as well as increasing our out of pocket costs for Co-Pays, Deductibles, Excess charges and uncovered costs ..
then OUR Taxes are increased ..
prices on everything is increased ..
    and there's still misery ..
(in fact .. we're now worse off than the previous year .. and there's still more increases in health care coming too)

WHY isn't he Coughing it all back up ..
ALONG WITH ALL THE COSTS of his vacations, touch-and-goes, all the appearances for cash .. all the concerts and high flying events/times that both HE and the rest of his family is attending .. OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET (And get this one who never served out of the Military health Care system too) ..
WHY is he not paying out of pocket for all his assistants, (or at least accounting for those costs on his tax returns and paying TAXES on that as well) ..
why is there the CZARS STILL (and all that staffing for the spouses) .. CUT THAT OFF and pay that out of pocket (his own pocket) too ..
UNTIL that is done .. this is nothing more than a publicity game ..
and I'm tired of seeing msm publicize this 'token' that doesn't even affect HIS BOTTOM LINE .. since he's garnered more awards from puffery while in office too ..

No, it is just another political gimmick and if he wants me to take his gesture seriously he will offer at least 10% of the crony-cap millions that he will receive once leaving office.

5% of Obama's pay doesn't amount to much of anything, and I doubt that it makes anyone feel better who has been forced to do without. Doesn't he carry a printing press in his pocket that prints defective $100 bills?

He is a political animal and the sequester has not brought the results that he thought they would. So now he tries a different tack. He is a political hack and has no convictions that he can show cause if he did, he wouldn't have gotten elected. So he works within a secret agenda.

100% would be better because he's double dipping with $71,000 of/day of special interest money over and above his salary. Maybe then he'd have White House tours? .....NOT he's afraid someone would do something drastic!

I think he should have cut his salary 49%. The President represents about 51% of America. Only those who support him. He makes it very clear he doesn't represent those who disagree with his policies therefore he has only earned half his salary.

I see it as a slap in the face. $20,000 - a feeble act to prove to us that he's in touch. He should return 1/2 his salary and pay back every penny he's stolen from us.

He should double the sequester cuts to the budget and his salary, then double them again... then we'd *almost* have a balanced budget for this year.
