I think it has the potential to be. When you use a Taser against a man who is already handcuffed and complaining about having chest pains, you should be expect that man to die. Sure, Taze a man that outweighs you and is acting aggressively and not listening to your instructions. But I watched a heavy cop Taze a grandmother than was confused and belligerent, and was about 100 lbs soaking wet.

sometimes it's been abused....there is no doubt about that....but for the most part it's better than shooting the guy or beating the snot out of a subject....

Its funny too! watching people flop around when they get zapped. If you don't like it then obey the law and you won't get tased.

Nope. Like anything else, it all depends on the scenario.

Tasers were meant to take the place of shooting suspects in these situations. That some of them are so high on dope that their hearts can't take it shows just how violent and out of control some perpetrators are. In one case in Ft. Worth, a mentally ill man who weighed three hundred pounds was terrorizing his family. So the police came out and from the film footage it was like a movie. People who are mentally ill or who are on drugs can be unpredictable and demonstrate almost superhuman strength. The man threw off three officers and was approaching one injured cop when another tazed him. The combination of his size and the drugs he had taken and the tasing killed him. But had he further attacked the cop and had they not had tasers, the police would have had no option but to shoot him. Of course the family sued the city. I don't know what the outcome was. But I do think these devices should only be used by highly trained personnel.

In the good ol' Days, Police knew how to humble a tough guy .

For those who don't like Tasers, there's always a 9mm alternative. Which one would you care to choose?

If used in self defense, no.

However, outside of self defense, yes. There is absolutely no need to use tasers in every single case I've heard of over the past year or two. You dont need to taze a man you've cuffed and pinned to the ground. You dont need to taze granny in bed. You dont need to taze a pregnant woman in her own car. You dont need to taze anyone unless they are threatening someone's life.
