If the judge agreed not to put the theft on her record, it's not cruel and unusual. Otherwise, I don't agree with the judge's sentence at all.

let her family, friends, neighbors ..

This is a better punishment than prison. Instead of being incarcerated with even worse criminals who think she's a wimp, she gets viewed by decent people coming to shop every day, plus she doesn't cost the state room and board.

Better than doing jail time. Also, what is wrong with publicly atoning for her crime. Old saying - If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I used to live near the WAL-FART that had the highest percentage of shop lifting in the country. On a average weekend they would lose 30k to 50k. It was so bad that the police forced WAL-FART to install a police annex with holding cells.

Its the same WAL-FART where the elderly man was assaulted
