You!

I have had issues with this nurse time and time again. I'm back in hospital having another round of treatment and once again she is assigned to me.

She makes snarky comments about me being homosexual and how her faith is against it.

Should i report her for this?

Being gay is not a lifestyle.

I respect your opinion but there is not a gay gene! It is a choice maybe harder for some than others but I know to many gays. Some decide to stop and they have. It is something that gets hardwired in our mind much like implanting by ducks. I respect you as a person.

Yes, that's totally unprofessional of her. She is there to take care of you and tear you down regardless of anything. You DO NOT have to allow her to be your nurse. Go to the nurses station and ask to speak to the charge nurse or speak with your dr about it in the morning. If you think about it, she works for you...you pay her salary...she shouldn't be making judgments against you...PERIOD!

Yes. You should report her and tell them that you want a MALE nurse that should make you happy. Not to sure it will cure what your problem is though. But you MIGHT GET LUCKY and be a lot happier.

It is unprofessional... the woman is there to work and serve as a employee, not give her opinion on what she thinks she knows about a persons personal life. If she can't keep her mouth shut about her faith and her beliefs, I suggest she get a different job. The Human Resources Dept. needs to know there is a problem.... It must be addressed.

At the very least request that you be assigned to another nurse. But if she is doing this to you she is doing this to other patients too. If no one reports her she will continue to do this to people who most need help. This is sad. I am so sorry you are having to deal with something like this!

He is in an hospital that hospital likely receives government funding which requires that no one - and that means NO ONE - be discriminated against. That woman can keep her freaking religious views to herself and just do her job. Oh, and she can be fired, too.

Rusty, given the way the health system works, that isn't always an option. Sometimes, you are limited to a certain hospital, and if that nurse is at that hospital, you're stuck with her. It doesn't mean you can't tell her to either stop it, or ask her supervisor to put a different nurse on your case.

In some cases, no. In some cases, a hospital may be the only game in town. It may be the only one which offers the treatment you need. It may be the only one our insurance allows us to go to. There are three hospitals in my area. My insurance will not cover visits to all three. I believe two are preferred, but the other is allowed only in an emergency and only until I could be transported safely to one of the other two.

There are also situations where hospitals in given areas will specialize in services. One will be the 'cancer treatment' hospital. One will be the cardiac care hospital. One will take trauma patients. If your treatment is at a certain hospital because that's were it's offered, you're stuck with that hospital.

Service is service. A hospital is supposed to provide that service without comments on your personal life, which is none of their business unless it relates to your medical condition. Just because it's the right of the nurse to have her own personal opinions, doesn't mean she has the right to have that carry over into her professional life. That's what being a professional is all about: You separate your personal likes, dislikes, and feelings from your professional job. She doesn't have to like homosexuals or approve of their lifestyle. It's her JOB to take care of patients and being rude to one is not in the best interests of his health.

I think the best solution is not to have a tantrum, but to contact the nursing supervisor and ask to have a different nurse assigned to him. If asked why, he could say that given her personal beliefs, it would be better if she was assigned to someone else whose lifestyle was not in conflict with those. Both she and the patient would be happier.

That is a ridiculous statement. You go to the hospital where your doctors has hosptial priviledges. That is the way it works.

She does not have the right to voice her opinion in the work place at all. She is bound by her job to deliver health care servies, not pass judgement and make nasty comments. Pathients pay the salaries of all the hospital staff.

Absolutely. Nursing profession is supposed to be compassionate and supportive. She is neither. Report her to your attending physician and to the Administrator or CEO of the hospital. Or you could just call her Nurse Ratchet (just kidding) supportive report attending physician administrator ceo hospital nurse ratchet kidding

Fair enough you are entitled to your opinion if my and my integrity. I know what is what so your opinion if me holds little importance in my mind. As for me being in nz that holds little relevance as I joined while I was still living in Houston but switched when I moved back here. Just because people are in the USA it does not me I cannot ask for help. My opinions and views often get over looked in person as I'm so small and quiet natured. It's not my fault I do not have the "balls" to stand up to a nurse. She intimidates me.

If she intimidates you, then you are feeding her your fear. By doing that you are letting her be in control, don't do that, OK, I'm sorry if I came off a little strong, its the internet, so I am quite suspicious of everything. Put your finger in her face and say STFU!!! She will get the message and you will feel better, don't get physical, stand your ground and tell her either stfu or get out my face.

Look I think you are probably a good person, don't let a bad one ruin your day.
