First we had the Shoe Bomber, then the Underwear Bomber, the Times Square bomber and now the Christmas Tree Bomber?
Residents of Portland, Ore., were shocked to learn over the Thanksgiving weekend that one of their own, 19-year-old Mohamed Mohamud, had plotted to detonate a car bomb at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Pioneer Courthouse Square packed with 10,000 people with the intention of inflicting maximum damage on men, women and children.
The details of Mohamud’s background have served as catnip to the right wing blogosphere, where his status as a Muslim native of Mogadishu, Somalia, and as a naturalized U.S. citizen have been toplined. Along with that, when apprehended by authorities, Mohamud reportedly said “Allahu Akbar” (“God is Great”) and explained that his plot was part of a “violent jihad.”
The New York Times reported that he was taken in on Friday night after federal agents had spent six months setting up a sting operation, including supplying him with the fake bomb he was toting at his arrest. While the elaborate sting was part of a fake plot, an FBI agent said the threat from Mohamud was “very real.” Mohamud was charged with trying to use a weapon of mass destruction in the latest in a disturbing string of attempted bombings by American citizens or radicalized immigrants.
Unlike the Times Square bombing that never was, the FBI had been tracking Mohamud since 2009, when they intercepted e-mails he exchanged with a man who had returned from the Middle East and who was later identified as a terrorist recruiter. Last June, knowing that Mohamud was frustrated at his inability to get jihadist training overseas, an undercover agent made contact and posed as an associate of the jihadist trainer from Pakistan.
Mohamud soon took an aggressive role in planning his bombing run, admitting that he was looking for a “huge mass” of victims when the agent noted that many women, children and families would be at the Christmas tree ceremony.
On Sunday, unidentified attackers set a fire at an Islamic center in Corvallis that Mohamud had attended. No suspects were in custody in that attack at press time.
Does this latest plot make you worry more about home-grown terrorists?

Just wait until we have the first Butt Plug Bomber, especially if you think airport security is getting far too personal already.
Some of these "home-grown terrorists" may well be unemployed people whose benefits are not extended and who can no longer feed hei families, while the wealthy parasites are getting more tax cuts.
Historically, most "home-grown" violence has been created by the class warfare waged on the poor by the rich. That's why we guillotined a few thousand wealhy parasites in the 1790s here in France.
Many are not homegown they are just coming in this country to cause terror. Mohamed wasn't home grown. A naturalized citizen is not a natural born citizen....big difference.
You aren't the first to prefer chains.
This is absurd -- allowing the FBI to create "terrorists" whom they can then "capture." It's a public relations ploy. Pick any mainstream, non-partisan news source and read the story for yourself.
The worst domestic terrorism we've had in the U.S. is by murderous anti-abortion forces -- bombing the Olympics and medical clinics, and assassinating police and medical staff. Those groups are still active and still need to be investigated and prosecuted.
Because little bitches like him who want in the "spot light" so badly feel that now is the perfect time to act out.
Don't under estimate our security in these matters.
