Let Assad resolve his problems with the Islamists without the US getting sucked into Syria's problems. If the rebels in Syria realized they were on their own (no US involvement) the rebellion would end one way (fade away) or the other (squashed). Either way it is not our (USA) problem. Thirty some years ago we did not let the Shah of Iran kill Kholmanni before he returned to Iran and we have been paying for it every since.
The question is should there be a revolution. So far, all the other Middle Eastern Springs have ended in tears, violence and the end of tourism for the foreseeable future. It's also led to Islamic governments being set up, like in Egypt. We're all better off with Syria staying stable and secular.
How old is this question? A civil war has been going on for months now, and for those who say, its not really a civil war I ask you what else would you call an organized military conflict between two sides in the same country, with well defined leadership?
This uprising is inspired by the West with help from its allies in NATO and the Gulf states. The goal is to remove Assad as leader and replace him with a puppet of the West.
However, with Russia and China aware of what's going on, the plan for regime change is falling apart.
Do you belive Syria should be a puppet government? I'm from Russia and I don't like puppet governments because when you let them free, they don't know what to do and they fall apart
Maybe 20 years from now, but not in the immediate future. The government has been fairly brutal in dealing with those who stand in their way, and the resistance is not as organized as the media would have you believe. Syrian leaders have made it quite clear they have no problems gunning down unarmed civilians.
