Do you think Atheist are happier now seeing the destructive stability of Moral and ethical values decline in our nation today, since they fought so hard to disband Christian faiths?

I
am none religious not atheist, but religion in itself does not determine ones
moral, ethical and self spirituality that controls conscience of what is right
and wrong, But the truth is Christians on a higher average have higher moral
standards. That out forefathers believed
strongly was the pillars of our nation's foundation.

Your poll question contains two unsupported assertions.
    1) Moral and ethical values have declined in our nation.
    2) Atheists have fought to disband Christian faiths.

What evidence do you have for these assertions?

I am happy being part of the collapse of systems of ethics and morals which are both unethical and immoral, and also self-contradictory and divisive.

And I will happily continue toppling the houses of cards.

This is the most non-factual post I've seen for a while....(not counting most of the conservative "News (?) and Politics posts). I'm an Atheist, and I don't give a DAMN what ethical and moral problems Christians have!

The best answer I've seen on this subject is:

"Religion is like a penis; It's fine to have one, it's fine to be proud of it, but PLEASE don't whip it out in public and start waving it around, and don't try to shove it down my children's throat!"

There are SOME Atheists that overstep their bounds, just like there are some Religious nuts who do the same. John Adams said: "The purpose of the separation of church and state is to keep, forever from these shores, the ceaseless strife that has soaked the sands of Europe in blood for centuries!" YOU are not helping that cause!

    LOL

Who holds the "higher" moral standard? The one that is good to others out of an inborn will to treat others as they would also like to be treated, or the one that refrains from raping and pillaging... just because an ancient book told them not to.

    Hmm...

Atheism isn't a party to agree with. You either believe in a God, or not. The fact that naturally occurring atheism simply tends to create societies that are far more peaceful is just a product of getting rid of faith, IMO. A liberal use of faith instantly breeds irreconcilable differences between people. BIG ones. There is no logic that will resolve, or change utterly faith based beliefs. This is the exactly the opposite of critical thought and reasoning. Something pervasive for many atheists because there are no mental boundaries to such things. We have no irreconcilable "hang ups" that instantly cause angst between our fellow man.

This is moronic question with moronic answer choices and I almost hate myself for stooping to answer it.

Atheists have higher moral and ethical standards than Christians do, almost universally. In fact, Satanists and Wiccans are generally more moral and ethical than Christians as well. Christianity has become a cloak for greed and bigotry in the U.S.

Atheists have not worked for the destruction of Christianity. They have worked to defend our constitutional right to freedom of religion. If you want to live in a Christian theocracy, go live in one. The U.S. is not one, so if you want to live here, then deal with the fact that your religious views don't rule the roost.

Spirituality is hokum. People know right from wrong. I give much more credit to those who do what is right BECAUSE it is right than to those who do what is right because they're afraid of some sky daddy.

True, but many people claim morality of whom claim no religion, But do wrong,so what is to be their guide, judge, etc.
  • ALofRI Richy 2012/05/29 15:24:03
    ALofRI
Those that claim a religion also do wrong, so where was their guide, their judge. My problem with them is that they say GOD is the judge, yet THEY judge. Human decency and society (by majority rule), should be the judge. Centuries of religion have proven that that entity is a failure, and that one cannot get along with another.....too judgmental.

If by 'moral and ethical values' you mean depriving women, gays and other minorities of basic constitutional protections in the name of God, the atheists' fight to disband these values might just – other than their disbelief in Him – be the very work of Jesus rather than its opposition.

Other than that, what they may hold to in the affirmative is all on them: If they want to believe they envolved from apes, for instance, I say let them have at it.

I am not happy with these answer choices. However, I will tell you that while I am a religious person, I have several friends who are atheist. They do not have low moral standards. Right and wrong are the same for everyone. There was also a lack of morals among those who are religious. They kept their mess in the background, and still do. Religion has nothing to do with being really moral. You can pretend to be religious, but you never know what someone is doing when the door shuts. I don't like broad assumptions about people, whether they believe as I do or not.
