Do you think all politicians should have to get a degree in accounting?

Absolutely, make them learn to do accounting.
Nah, they know what they are doing.

Most politicians seem to have no clue how to balance a budget. I really wonder if they can even balance their own checkbooks.

And give them random drug tests as well.

Or we could stop electing lawyers and start hiring small business owners, that know what it's like to have to deal with the garbage legislation the current and former bunch of idiots have thrust up on them.

I will also scream at the top of my lungs, Pay elected officials not a dime more in pay and benefits that the median after tax (all taxes, federal, state, city, income, sales, property,.....) income, of the private sector employees in the district they represent. When they do a good job and the take home, spendable income goes up they get a raise. Like now when almost everyone's after tax income has gone down the house, senate, president....... need a matching pay cut. ( I say private sector only so that these officials don't just raise public sector employee pay to falsely drive up the median)

Like me? I own one and I consult with hundreds. I can't count the number I've helped start up.

You would be better qualified to be in the house or senate than the current bunch of yahoo's. I'm sure you could relate dozens if not hundreds of stories of the stupidity that government rules and regulations have created for small businesses to jump through or to spend hundreds on for pointless or meaningless requirements.

Myself, I can provide multiple stories of governments lack of common sense, greed, nepotism, payoffs, kickbacks and out right ignorance, that has stalled and killed several architectural projects.

I would say economics would be the most useful for fiscal policy but we would still need other types of degree holders for diverse thoughts and for things that aren't fiscal in nature. Lawyers, philosophers, military officers, environmental studies, et cetera; they're all needed for the diverse requirements to running an effective government.

I agree but at this point I just want them to understand how to balance a budget. Thanks for answering!
