A funeral home is stepping things up and opening a Starbucks store inside to boost business.

HAHAJK.COM reports:
The Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, S.C., has decided the loss of a loved one doesn’t stand a chance against the craving for a Grande Caramel Latte, and is opening a Starbucks in one wing of the home.

When a member of your family dies, you choose a funeral home by reputation or word of mouth. You are looking for good, compassionate service to help you through a hard time. A grieving family is not thinking "which funeral home has that Starbucks in it?" However, trends have changed over the years and funeral homes offer many things that were unheard of in the past. Catering for instance, online signing of the guest book and many others. If Starbucks and the funeral home can both make money, it might work.

Totally DISRESPECTFUL!!! A GREEDY LOW-LIFE, MONEY GRUBBING thing to do. People are grieving, and now they have to remember to carry quarters? A new LOW!!! Even for the GREEDY!!!
And I DID NOT VOTE I NEED MY COFFEE. I VOTED GROSS!!! I HATE these STUPID POLLS. From now on if there is a poll, I will decline to comment.

(shrugs) I might finally try a Starbucks if I were at a funeral. I've known people that love their Starbucks coffee and would find it comforting to be able to get one. I'm going to say it even though I will get some boos....there would be many times business would be dead. Ba dump bump!

Let the crack addicts feed there habit, Ive seen people who drink coffee alcohol in worse shape than a lot of junkies, not surprised they cant even put there habit aside at a time like that.

Why not? Grieving people don't deserve to have a little something nice while they are dealing with something as emotionally draining as a funeral? I would have appreciated being able to grab a cup of coffee while helping my mom plan my step-dad's funeral rather than have to leave the funeral home and go elsewhere. It would have been a little dose of normal during a very trying time and would have helped take our mind off all the bad that had happened. The world doesn't stand still because someone dies and if it helps the survivors in anyway, good. And its just a cup of coffee for goodness sakes! What's wrong with that?

Any Funeral I have ever been to had a big coffeemaker, with cups, cream and sugar furnished at the Funeral Home. Having to buy some coffee should not be another worry at that time. Charging for that soothing cup of coffee is really OUTRAGEOUS and DISRESPECTFUL!!!

Especially when it's as expensive as Starbucks.

It doesn't matter how cheap it is. It is still DISRESPECTFUL to charge a grieving person for a freaking cup of coffee at a Funeral Home. It speaks to the ethics or lack of them of the Funeral Home. I hope they lose ALL of their business.

My point is that it adds insult to injury to not only charge, but charge ridiculous prices…

Me, too, and the coffee stunk. If you don't want to buy Starbucks, nobody is forcing you to buy it. It's just an option for people who want it. I live in SC and I'd be willing to bet that this funeral home will still furnish it's own coffee for people who want it. As a matter of fact, I'm going to call them today and ask. I'll let you know what I find out.

Have you guys ever been to a funeral it is so boring, i would think coffee would be a way to keep people awake.

personally i like the way the old religions went about death. Remembering the persons life what they did and celebrate that they are going to be with the ancestors, none of this crying and boo-hooing, burn the body set the spirit free and then celebrate, get drunk and be done with it.
  • Quinni aneed2know 2012/07/13 13:46:28

They go out after services to eat and get drunk now-a-days. Before you put the whiskey in the coffin with the body to keep it cold. There's always fresh coffee and tea at the funeral homes - sometimes with snacks... for FREE...why make those grieving pay for it? They already spent way too much for the viewing and coffin. Plus, imagine all the strangers crashing in.

Actually, I don't drink coffee, but I don't see what's wrong with this. I think it's a great idea. I read the description of the area to be set aside as a coffee area (not a full fledged Starbucks, but rather a coffee area to be run by Starbuck's trained baristas), and it sounds like a peaceful, comforting area where people can relax a little during a tough time. Having been involved in several funerals, often having to spend many hours there during visitations, etc., I would love a nice corner with a fireplace and wi-fi to relax with a nice hot drink. I think this is brilliant.

Ever since that funeral, people have reported strange experiences inside the Robinson Funeral Home, from seeing coffee cups floating in the air to the irresistible smell of coffee. And let's not forget the sound of hyper ghosts drawing energy from all the caffeinated lattes.

If we were talking a brewery next-door with a bar-front going into the funeral parlor (like a duplex business-front), that would be just fine you can't screw that up. But a Starbucks (or some other type of edible food or beverage requiring prep at the same place)? No thanks, I'll pass.

Matter of fact, I never would even eat OR drink anything in even a hospital (let alone at a funeral parlor, wake or whatever else) unless its pre-cooked and packaged somewhere else first. I just don't do it, nor would I drink a coffee at a funeral parlor that was prepped AT the funeral parlor also.

Funeral parlor for handling the dead. Starbucks for checking the paper or your gizmos pretending to be an elitist snob for an hour. And that's the way it's supposed to be.
