President Barack Obama unveiled his plan to fight gun violence in an announcement Wednesday morning. The proposal includes a ban on assault weapons and ammunition clips that hold more than 10 bullets, as well as requiring universal background checks for any U.S. resident who wants to buy a gun.

"While there is no law, or set of laws, that can prevent every senseless act of violence completely, no piece of legislation that will prevent every tragedy, every act of evil, if there’s even one thing we can do to reduce this violence, if there’s even one life that can be saved, then we’ve got an obligation to try," Obama said in the speech.

Of course, Obama's proposal is sure to be met with fierce criticism from gun rights activists, the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Republicans alike. Do you agree with Obama's plan?

None of our Amendments are absolute. That includes the 2nd Amendment. We have made laws going against the Amendments in certain situations time and time again. Even if a few types of guns are banned, so long as people can still purchase and keep a gun, then our gun rights are not being infringed. Background checks and ammunition limits do not violate the 2nd Amendment in any way, shape, or form.

Gun control has not worked in past...criminals will not submit to background checks and won't turn in their guns!!
This is blatent violation of the second amendment and constitutional rights of the people, it will only cause law abiding citizens to be at risk, exposed and helpless....also it will start a war and cause more citizens to be killed in gun grab than in school shootings!!

Guns have been around hundreds of years and they do not become more or less violent right after a major news event. The news events are not reasons to curtail gun ownership, they are excuses to. Gun violence is the result of TV and video game violence. The real reason Europe has less gun crimes is because of their attitudes towards TV violence-they consider it obscene just as our religious fanatics think sex is obscene. We have it backwards-things that have to do with the creation of life are acceptable and things that have to do with the destruction of life should be kept discretionary. Since we have it backwards, then we have problems both with guns and perverts here while over there they have neither problem.

GUNS do not kill people, people do,there are more people killed in auto auto accidents does that mean we outlaw cars, the problem is NOT gun control, its enforcing the law once crime is committed someone kills someone right away lawyers are involved ,person is not of sound mind ,some one else caused or something . The person that shot the gun did the crime let judge or jury deal with it ,no T.V. newspaper radio influencing public just people
responsible or hearing case gag order after arrest & until conviction. carry SWIFT JUSTICE. Once laws are properly enforced crime will go down.

It won't even make it less harder to steal, at least for a couple hundred years. There are already so many guns out there that nothing will be accomplished except to make it harder for honest citizens to protect themselves, and the government will know more about who has the guns and where they are when they come to take them. CA. already has laws on the books that they can confiscate your guns if you are put on the NICS system. That's right, conme to your homwe and take them with out your permission. And under the proposed legislation, your doctor can put you on the NICS list without even telling you.

Again, you missed the Third option, "HELL NO"

Mostly because I KNOW his "plan" is not what he advertises it to be. his PLAN is to completely disarm America. Just like his PLAN with health-care is to get us to single-Payer. Obama-Care is designed to make health-care SUCH a Night-Mare, that we give up and say "screw it, give us what Canada has", and THAT is what he wants. He said so in 2008 while addressing SEIU. Something about how we can't get to single payer right away, it will take ten years or so.

In a similar fashion, his version of gun reform would chip away at your rights, but do NOTHING to stop the next massacre, which will result in a renewed public outcry, and a pledge to reduce our rights just a little more. And so on it would go until FINALLY, the Public outcry is for the repeal of the Second Amendment.
