Do you support eliminating property taxes for low-income seniors?

Politicians are always talking about protecting seniors. They will promess almost anything for a vote. But where do they stand where it counts, in your wallet?

Many seniors on fixed income/pension are struggling right now. They have been hit hard by inflation and rising food/energy prices.

Many of them worked hard to pay off their homes and contribute all their working life to Social Security. So how do we reward them?

They are taxed higher at tax time because they no longer qualify for the EIC (Earned Income Credit) and have to pay taxes on their Social Security check.

On top of this, they have to pay property taxes every year regardless of their economic situation and whether they own the house or not.

Wait a minute Blue! Shouldn't the govt treat everyone equally?

In a perfect society, I would say yes. Everyone should be treated the same and pay the same for services. But as long as we have an entire section of the electorate unfairly taxed and neglected, these issues must be addressed.

Let me know what you think. Vote now, leave a comment, reply, share with all your friends and Rave!!!

    Definitely!
(and the same for those that are permanently disabled as well .. )

WHY should those honored elders ..
    hard-working all their lives ..
now have to struggle and make decisions ..
    food or medicine ..
heat or just no power at all ..
and then be taxed so hard on what they worked to pay off in full ..

EACH state should work on this relief from taxation ..
as well as ensuring that any FICA (Social Security) income they have is also getting Tax Relief too ..

I believe homeowners are required to pay property taxes in every state. Under what circumstances would non-owners pay property taxes?

Definitely. I don't see why low-income seniors have to pay for 'foreign aid' to bribe and prop up corrupt Arab dictators to be friendly towards Israhell. We've seen the backlash if 80 million Egyptians get caged and tortured in our brutal police states.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has such a program where profit from lottery sales are used to rebate a good deal of property tax on a sliding scale based on income for seniors. This keeps them in their homes and eating. They helped build this place and should be helped when needed.

Remember, property tax is SUPPOSED to be strictly for local schools. IF there are no children in the area, that would make sense. But young or old, we all benefit from having Other People's Kids in school.

"Property taxes fund city government, pay salaries of city employees, fund all the municipal services the city must provide such as police, firefighters, trash collection, snow plowing, and community outreach programs. Property taxes provide funds for maintenance, repair and improvement of roads, buildings, parks, municipal arenas, community centers, senior centers, youth centers, civic centers, athletic fields, museums and shelters. Property taxes fund the public school systems.

And yet we're always being tapped for more bonds for police and fire, we pay trash collection as part of our water bill, and all those other 'services' are also looking for more money. A pity city govt, like their bigger brothers upstream, can't seem to stay within budget.
