CEO John Mackey claims that there are alternatives to President Obama and the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party's prescription for Statist "health care".

He lays out his case in the Wall Street Journal. He also walks his talk at Whole Foods, where nine out of ten employees have medical benefits and enjoy a higher pay and better working conditions than others in the industry.

Mackey agrees that the system is broken, and gives a wholistic set of solutions, rather than the plodding and stupid "One Size Fits All Answer" from DC.

They're good ideas, just not enough to make things happen today. John's heart is in the right place but there are too many forces at work. We need to get the government on the case.

I've never subscribed to the idiocy of paying more because a label says "organic" or whatever the fuck the labels say to appease the hippies that flock to the store. Organic food is the biggest placebo in the world, and people are actually paying more money for the placebo. I think Wholefoods has a great healthcare system (HSA's)--[Look up John Stossel's report on it on 20/20]. But, I've always boycotted Wholefoods due to my capitalistic choice of equally good and healthy food at a lower price.

    I think.....

Whole Foods can afford to give health insurance because, well, have you seen their prices?

    John's eight ideas...

Remove the legal obstacles that slow the creation of high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs).

Equalize the tax laws so that employer-provided health insurance and individually owned health insurance have the same tax benefits.

Repeal all state laws which prevent insurance companies from competing across state lines.

Repeal government mandates regarding what insurance companies must cover.

Enact tort reform to end the ruinous lawsuits that force doctors to pay insurance costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

Make costs transparent so that consumers understand what health-care treatments cost

    Enact Medicare reform

Finally, revise tax forms to make it easier for individuals to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to help the millions of people who have no insurance and aren't covered by Medicare, Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
