Do you REALLY think this "government" is OUR government? I don't.

Let me state what I hope is obvious to all reading this column: This
sort of willing capitulation to government censorship was not the norm
five years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago or 30 years ago. This is a
new phenomenon – chilling and alarming to an old-timer like me who would
never agree to submit his copy for approval to politicians.

These so-called journalists are selling their ethical and moral souls
for access to politicians. And this practice raises expectations by
politicians that they can routinely manipulate the press to their
advantage. That makes the job of real journalists – independent
reporters faithful to their craft – even more difficult, because they
will be shut out from access.

It reminds me of the fact that, just last week, WND was denied
credentials to cover the Democratic National Convention. Why do you
suppose what has become one of the largest and most influential news
agencies in the country would be denied access to the convention floor?
Simply because the Democrats know we won’t play by their rules of
control like the members of the establishment press club.

All I can say about these people I once considered “colleagues” is
that I am so ashamed of them. I am mortified. They are humiliating
themselves and a vital institution for any free society.

It seems the biggest threat to the American tradition of a free and
independent press is not government coercion. It’s the willing
submission of the press to being handled and managed by government and
politicians.

When Americans read these reports – whether in newspapers, wire services
or on the Internet – they are not really reading news stories at all.
They are reading approved, pre-packaged press releases from the
government and politicians. But, even worse, they are not labeled as
such. They are labeled as actual news.

You really think WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT? Our government, predominantly the White House, is behaving exactly as Stalin's and Hitler's did. You can complain about me comparing Obama's reign of power to Hitler's and Stalin's, but you cannot prove me wrong. For all intents and purposes, it seems our press is equivalent to Pravda.

Yes, the press bears blame - but there would be no blame to place if we had clean politicians. We do not have clean politicians.......we have dirty trash running what some of you think is "OUR" government. It isn't OUR government. It is owned and operated wholesale by dirty politicians who go to the highest bidder. If you consider that YOUR government, you're welcomed to it. I want no part of it.

So much of our "news" comes via the Associated Press (AP), and they can often be seen as the beginning of the spin (assumed the reader pays attention and has some ability of rigorous and discerning comprehension).

Seems there should be some required standard of Truth whenever something is presented as "News". Opinion is not always so disclosed as it should be, but rather is subtly passed off as news.

Heck no. But in a way, I'm glad things got as bad as they did, because a lot of people are shaking themselves out of that sense of dependency now, and learning to think of *themselves* as the only government they need.

I agree. I believe more and more feel as I do and as you probably do - I could run things better than anyone in DC is running anything. My state could run things much better than DC can. We don't need DC, we don't need a Congress, and we don't need a President. We need a military that answers to 50 governors. Otherwise we could do quite well on our own.

We can only hope that "lot of people" is actually enough to turn things around quickly!
Looking at this vote2012 with two collectivist twins apparently leading us to more-of-the-same, we need to see one helluva lot of "New Change".
