The holiday season is coming to an end and many Americans are left with gifts that may be too big, too small, broken or just not the right selection. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers were expected to spend $586.1 billion on holiday shopping, up 4.1 percent from 2011. Now shoppers and gift recipients may have products that need to be returned to the store and rapidly aging receipts.

    I never return gifts. I like to think a gift is chosen, because the person giving it, thought I'd like it. If you look in my closet, you'll see the most butt ugly jacket ever...that my mom gave me one Christmas. It has snowmen and santa clauses all over it. I collect snowmen so I just say it's part of my collection. I knew that's why my mom gave it to me, so it came from her heart and that's important to me. :)

    Even if I didn't find that ridiculously rude and distasteful, this was the best christmas haul I've gotten in a while. A purse I'd had my eye on for months but could never catch the store open; my first set of luggage; a cool case for my Ipad; and presale tickets to Wicked? I don't think so. Aint giving any other that up.

    I kind of disagree with returning gifts people gave to you, it seems rude. I want the people to be happy with what I give them, but do include gift receipts in case they aren't. (Plus, I didn't get but a couple and they are things I really like.)

    The only way I could see myself doing that is if, for example, it's some kind of electronic device and it's not working, then sure. Otherwise, I agree with you.

    I got a new chair for my computer area, not sure till I open it. If it is leather or vinyl it goes back. I like fabric not something I would stick to in the summer.

    I got one gift- a stuffed toy zebra from my husband and love it. We are way too busy trying to get our house back to the way it was at the Jersey Shore to worry about gifts. He wanted an address book and that's what I got him.

    I got money, a wolf incense burner and a hot cocoa set. Not returning anything (except the gift certificates: you kind of have to, in the form of redeeming them).
