Confidence in Facebook's growth potential and marketability is dwindling, and now claims that Facebook ads don't work are threatening to shake it even more. According to Forbes, Facebook is jumping on damage control because General Motors dropped its $10 million in Facebook advertising. Not that $10 million is much to Facebook, but the message it sends could be disastrous.
To address the situation, Facebook outlined what a good ad should include: a focal point, brand link, tone, reward, noticeability, and finally, a point. If an ad doesn't have those things, it risks being ignored. Of course, companies like General Motors would argue that it's the platform that needs work, rather than the ads themselves. Do you tend to notice good Facebook ads, or do you ignore them completely?

- anna.stinson.39 2012/06/14 15:41:35NoI honestly ignore them. I have no interest in looking at them just as commercials on television. I turn the channel. So what really makes the difference? I just move on to another page and it is gone. Anyone I want advertising from emails me or is on my Facebook already.reply

- kraftymomma1979 2012/06/14 15:18:28YesI do actually, I've noticed that Facebook generates ads for things I'm actually interested in - scrapbooking, stamping, knitting. I thought it was weird they would show ads like that to everyone on FB. Then a friend explained that users receive specific ads based on their profiles. I really like that way of doing business. I'm not receiving ten ads per day for penis enlargers. Hey, I don't have a penis; ergo, don't need an enlargement. I have clicked on ads, gone to websites, and ordered stuff. It's all good for me.reply

- Papillon 2012/06/14 15:14:27No+1I try to keep away from facebook as much as possible, but it's being forced upon me. I'm not allowed to sign in through sodahead; I have to go through face book. I hate facebook; they're just trying to get everyone in the world dependent on them to do anything over the internet. They need to be destroyed. and NO, I do not read their ads because of their intrusive nature. Once again, I hate facebook. I ignore them as completely as I can. I feel the same about sodahead's ads, too.reply

so much for child friendly. that is why i do not like facebook. they do not allow sex offenders but they have countless of sex for hire sites. they also sail other sex things, stuff our children do not need to be exposed to.reply - kotabear Walter ... 2012/06/14 18:16:21
Yes but that's only if the kid previously searched it or has it as an interest on their profile. It's really the internet that can expose young children to things. To be honest, that's how I learned a lot about... private things... and I turned out alright! I think it's better for the kids to know about sex than to not. That way they can be safe about it. Peace out.reply - Merhabi... silverhorn 2012/06/14 17:21:25

I get SH directly in my inbox. When you signed up for SH, can you recall how you did it? The way you signed up may influence whether you are able to get direct log in.reply - Professor Wizard 2012/06/14 14:19:05No+1Yesterday myspace... Today facebook... Tomorrow ?????reply
