Do You Like the Name of the New iPad? (It's Just 'iPad')

Way to go back to your roots, Apple. On Wednesday, the uber-popular tech company revealed that it would be releasing the newest version of the iPad tablet to the masses (the release date is set for March 16.) And while Apple fans and tech enthusiasts alike were desperately searching the internet for the latest news on the "iPad 3", it turns out they had gotten something wrong: the name of the gadget. Because it's actually just called the new iPad. Er, what?

Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook, revealed the name of the product -- and the gadget itself -- in an announcement Wednesday in San Francisco. But other than the name, what's different about "the new iPad"? The biggest new feature is "retina display." That means the new iPad has approximately twice the resolution of the iPad 2 -- the clearest, crispest display on the market. It also needed a beefed-up quad-core A5X processor to power the retina display and keep up with visually demanding games.

Prices will run from $499 to $829, depending on the hard drive space and whether you want 4G. But back to this name business. Do you like the name of the new iPad -- or is it kind of confusing?

Hey Apple, instead of releasing a new iPad every 6-12 months with nothing drastically changed about it, how about actually MAKING drastic changes and RELEASING iPads in moderation... you know, give people time to save and buy one and enjoy it before coming out with a new one for people to rage about because they saved long and hard for the now older iPad.

    Just a thought.

You need clear model designations, especially if you're trying to order parts or accessories for it.

By "old format" I mean the sequential naming. The original iPad was called "the iPad". A year later came the upgraded version called "iPad2".

Now, we won't know how to distinguish the new from the original nomenclature (unless you buy one). Even iPad2S would have been understandable (like the iPhone 4S).

In any case, I love what Apple has done to sharpen up the iPad2 and along with it, they have improved apps and iTV. This company is really leading edge and I hope to see more futuristic stuff coming from this dynamic group of developers and engineers.

Apple did a fine job with the name. They'll probably sell lots of iPads. My mother wants one. So far we have two iPhones, an iPod, two Macbook Pros, and we've never been so satisfied. We love our Apple products!

I have an iPad 1 and had an iPhone 3G but they make you HAVE to upgrade!! They do make good products but they have a device life turnover every couple of years! Not only that they intentionally make their IOS in such a way that as the product get old, the hardware cannot handle it!! I cannot afford a new and improved Apple product just because they are money grubbing and need a new influx of funds!! EVIL!!!!! They are more for the rich than the average consumer!

You have a point there but I did the same when I was a PC guy. First IBM PC, then TANDY 100, THEN 386, 486, etc, etc. I think I spent enough in those year to personally fund a section of Bill Gates mansion. Did the same in phones... bag phones, LG, Razor and so forth. I never got iPad 1 or the first iPhone. I stood on the sidelines and waited. But you may be right...in a few years I may find my current Apple products problematic. It may not be Apple though... it may just be advancements in technology and that would include any company.

The millions of people who buy their products are computer illiterate and ignorant of the fact they are being ripped off...

They make crap, the only reason they have survived is due to outstanding advertising and marketing. Thanks to Steve Jobs, that being said we was still a self-centred twat who bullied anyone who came into contact with him.
All their products are obsolete, mainly for the fact they are too expensive you can get something equally as good or better for much, much cheaper.

Whether it be laptop, tablet, mobile or MP3/4 player...

It's clear you're an idiot, but, who cares....you have a Mac, so obviously you're better and know your stuff.

My main problem with Macs is the fact the software selection for both applications and games isn't nearly as varied as the selection for Windows. Yet I can get a PC for much cheaper that has the same specs of that of a Mac, how the hell does that work?

Apple sells over priced fashion accessors, that is it... you are buying a brand, not quality.

When you buy Apple, you get a good product. I should know. I own more than one Apple product. You're not just buying a brand. And, by the way? What are you buying when you buy a Windows PC? You're buying into Microsoft's lame operating system that's riddled with viruses and garbage. Man, give me a break! I would never have a Windows PC. Apple makes the best gadgets, computers and products bar none. Most people who complain about the prices want a computer for under $1,000. Some of us want something better and are willing to pay the price. Also, OS X beats the crap out of Windows 7.

I have yet to get a virus, only stupid people get viruses. Actually infecting your PC is not an easy process, the suer has to make several mistakes letting the virus in and then letting it manifest.
And there is a reason why there are so few virus out their for the Mac, mainly due to the fact the hackers and script kiddies want it to spread their viruses to as much users as possible and PC users vastly outnumber those of a Macs.

The Windows isn't perfect, i never said it was. I also agree it has many problems. that being said, it's obvious you're simply regurgitating stuff, so, please.... explain the "lame operating system".

You're been brainwashed by the lies of the Apple ads it appears. Please continue to fumble in ignorance so i can laugh at you...

Actually I'm going to invest into a 2.5 - 3K custom built multiple monitor gaming PC... does apple do that? If they did it would probably cost me twice that.
The argument about cost is the fact what you are spending for an Apple product is not worth it. Especially when you consider you are able to get something for much cheaper that does the exact same thing.

I have/had an Iphone 3gs and a Ipod (older model)... never understood what was so great about them. Then i realised there wasn't anythugn great about them, because you are not...

I do not claim to be an IT tech genius but I do not think I am computer illiterate either. In fact, I have built from the ground up my share of PC's. It seems that always after a few years the antiviral and firewall programs brought those things to their knees or was it the MS OS? Then one year I was given a MacBook Air for Christmas. Sweet. Once I learned how to run the thing, I liked it so much I traded in my BillGates Virus Magnet for a iMac. Already had an iPhone 3G and still have it. It has lasted me longer than any of the other phones I've had before it. I know what you are saying about software selection though but I was having to constantly upgrade my PC software anyway. What I buy in the Apple store can be loaded on my MBA or iMac at no additional cost. I have to agree with POWERSHAKER... I did not buy the brand, I bought the company and they have been very good to me. My Apple products run just as good today as the day I first used them. I never saw that in the PC world. AT work though I use a PC and it runs great...as long as the IT guys are here to make it so maybe you are right and I am illiterate. Apple does not expect me to be an IT guy which is why I like their products.

Custom built PC? Yeah, right. I'd like to see those prices. You can't just quote a price and expect people to believe it. Also, just the Mac Pro case alone is worth at least $500-$600. A custom built PC won't have that nice case at all. Also, when I was referring to prices, I was mainly referring to the Macbook Pro and the iMac. Who needs a Mac Pro these days unless they're using Final Cut Pro for major motion pictures? Not only that, but throw in the price of Windows for that Custom built PC. It only costs $29 to download OS X Lion for the Mac, and it's a better operating system. Also, you need to add all the free software out there for the Mac that you don't have to pay for. Also, I guarantee you there's no support for that Custom built PC either. Who you going to call up when something goes wrong? Your average user can benefit greatly from tech support, and Apple has the best support of any company out there.

Yeah. But, your average user don't even need a Mac Pro. They can use a Macbook Pro or an iMac. That's total overkill for your average consumer. Also, everyone knows that those Mac Pros are made for only certain types of people. And, what about having a custom built PC? Where's your support? And, how many people out there are tech nerds and want to build their own PC? But, even if we are talking Mac Pro, I guarantee you that Mac Pro is designed a lot better than a custom built PC.
