Do you like American accents?

Not all American accents are the same. I'm from California and I don't have an accent, even when I was told that I do, but there's no such thing as a West Coast accent like there's the Boston accent, southern, New York etc. My grandparents still have a pidegon accent because in Hawaii some of the people there don't speak proper English, so they're th's are something like Japanese accents (and they're Japanese lol.)

I hate all the ones you mentioned and the teen accents or what we used to call Valley Girl accents. Where they talk like a baby and say like every other word.

I think it is charming the way different regions have distinct dialects...though I admit they can take a bit of getting used to them. New Orleans is a favorite of mine..."N'awlins". Had a friend from Texas that would use the phrase "fixing to" instead of saying "going to" and this made me laugh, but I've added it to my vernacular. I have a close black friend that slides into occasional ebonics...refers to her children as "chillren"...no D in there...LOL...and I tease her about this a bit, but not in a mean sense. I took a linguistics class in college and my take away is that language will continue to evolve as it has from the dawn of time. Have some humor and remember Dan Quayle and the potato/potatoe fuss...LOL!

How would one get rid of a southern accent?

I love the English accent. It sounds so normal and lovely to me.

English accents can vary too. Not all of them are great either.

I'll have to take your word for it. The English whom I've met here in America speak beautifully.

I was born in South Dakota and some people here say that I have an accent...almost like a Canadian accent. I do not understand, I do not hear it.

Seeing as I live in Wyoming and don't travel much, I haven't heard any of those accents, except Southern, so I really can't say.

I really can't stand them. They annoy me so much.
