No, a "filibuster" is not another name for a Nor'easter. It's kind of hard to explain in a few words other than, as I said, is not a Nor'easter storm, but, has as much wind as one. Details on all this wind blowing stuff and exactly what a "filibuster" is on today's MisfitWisdom blog at http://misfit120.wordpress.com

Yes, of course I know what one is, and how it works. I actually paid attention in school. I find the debates on it incredibly funny.

Now lets see, I remember this one from 8th grade, Sister Clarissima saying the filibuster in such a unique way...wait, wait...I think its when someone in the Senate can start a debate abt any issue they choose and just keep talking and try to get a vote on it once a majority is there unless someone stops it from happening. But if I remember correctly there are certain stipulations to this ie what can be debated and when.

Oh my goodness....I am so excited!! I dedicate this "A" to the late Sister Clarissima and that awful Catholic School uniform. May they both be resting in peace.

I believe it is a very long, drawn out speech, usually related to POLITICS, and yes, lots of wind..the same type that comes out of people's butts when they get gas!

I don't really care. If I were a senator, I might care more. The senate really doesn't have filibusters anymore. It has votes on cloture. Filibusters are painful for the one(s) filibustering. Now those who want to hold up a vote don't have to find something to talk about for hours like Huey P Long did back in the golden age of filibustering.

It's a necessary tool in a functioning republic.
We do not want majority rule in America. That's dangerous.
And by the way...democrats are NOT proposing an end to the filibusterer.
Neither the GOP nor democrats would dare.

It's simply a strategic move regarding legislation and has been around a long time without bringing down the process so I don't care too much one way or the other. It can be annoying but it works because of a much needed wording in our right to speak on proposals.

To 'filibuster' a bill means, essentially, to talk it to death.

Right. It's a strategy. But it's not always successful. And it exits, not because legislators wanted to filibuster but because someone once figured out that, when given their chance to speak on a bill being proposed, they could continue because there was no time constraint.
