After more than a decade fighting the "Global War on Terror" and with the death of Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden the bombing in the Middle East continues. It is no secret that many security measures were taken and policy changes made to ensure that Americans would feel safe and confident in their government. Americans understood that the only way to ensure our victory would be to do whatever it takes.
The Patriot Act established under the Bush administration and later extended by the Obama administration, for our safety, allowed legal wiretapping of our phone calls and e-mails and general spying on people without a warrant.
The Department of Homeland Security and the TSA where also added to the fed budget at the annual cost of nearly 100 Billion. They quickly went to work implementing full body scanners, pat-downs and overall harrassment at the airport. They have also set up random check points to randomly stop and search vehicles and people without a warrant or probable cause.
The NDAA signed under the Obama administration and supported by Mitt Romney includes provisions for the military to arrest and indefinately detain US citizens and hold them in secret prisons without charge, lawyer or trial doing away completely with the Bill of Rights.
H.R. 347 Trespass bill recently passed to keep people from trespassing on federal restricted buildings and grounds. "Under the act, the government is also given the power to bring charges against Americans engaged in political protest anywhere in the country." Thereby making this type of freedom of speech unlawful.
Congress has recently approved an FAA re-authorization act that calls for 30,000 spy drones by 2020 to patrol the skies ending a right to privacy.
In conclusion, as we continue seeing the further militarization of local police, court-approved gps vehicle trackers, and possible rfid National ID cards....and now that our homes and neighborhoods have become the "battlefield"...
Do you feel safer now than before 9/11??!!

john Kills 2012/04/30 16:48:58No, I do not feel safer+7I feel more threatened by the coming police state than I ever felt by the terrorists.

The odds are greater that you will commit suicide or be killed by law enforcement than they are that you will die by an act of terrorism.
I think it is also because we have a President who is not constantly harping on fear.
When Dick Cheney and his daughter came back on the scene recently taking up where they left off on their fear mongering I felt that old tension returning. Ride off into the Wyoming sunset Mr Cheney and don't think for a minute anyone misses seeing you and your abrasive voiced daughter.

Although I myself am committing no wrongdoing, it feels good to know that, should any appearance of even the smallest error or omission be detected now by some anonymous bureaucrat in anything pertaining to me, my family, or to someone I might have inadvertently done business with or a charity to whom I unwittingly made a donation, the All-Seeing Eye of Government will swiftly bring their heavy boot down on me for my own protection.
No one laughed at this many years ago, and now the only ones laughing are our enemies.
It's sad but so true.
If 9/11 really did happen because terrorists hate us for our freedoms (doubtful, but a clever pretext anyway), then we're well on our way to becoming "terror-proof", because our own politicians seem more than willing to constantly assail the freedoms that made this country such a great place to live.
