Do you feel getting a marriage license is a form of asking the government for permission to get married?

Basically a marriage license says it is illegal to get married unless you bribe the government to allow you to do it. which is wrong. the state has no jurisdiction over matters of the heart, and no right to claim ownership over anyone's relationship.

Marraige licensing started in the old south when people of different races wanted to get married, at least that is what I have read. I have also learned that George and Martha Washington never had a marriage license. They way it used to be done is the couple would get a certificate of marriage from the church that they were maried in.
What is marriage? It is a contract between a man, a woman, and God. The government should have no buisiness in it. IMHO

A marriage License is a way to allow the state a claim over what is yours... like your kids.

That is what one of the speakers at the Freedom Festival in SD said. He said if you have children under a marriage licence that you were giving your right to parent away to the government. You don't have 100% responsibility over your children. I don't know exactly what he meant by that and I am kind of upset with myself for not asking him. I had plenty of chances to but whenever he was free to talk I couldn't remember what I was going to ask him. (I am blaming that on the overload of information LOL)

A license is defined as , the "priviledge", not the right, to do that which is otherwise illegal. You all already have your rights , why do you need priviledges from your servant. It's like asking your butler if you can go out! Only white people can common law marry, in America.

Any licenses issued by government puts government in control of all affairs related to the license.

Never thought about it that way..more as a way to protect others from being the second, third or more spouse, all at the same time!

What if they want to be in a poligamist relationship? Shouldn't they have the right to choose if they are all consenting adults?

As it stands, that is against the law, like same-sex marriages..except in certain states/sects.

All I know is that it cost a lousy $15.00 and a check to make sure we were not already married...then we were allowed to own each others debt!

It's actually for a public record so that our future relatives can research the genealogy of the family history and determine who we married, and how many times we got married. Government interference really has nothing to do with it! It's for genealogical research, or for our nosy gr. gr. gr. gr. grandkids.

So in your opinion, why is there a problem with gay people getting married?
  • Vivid Magzilla 2008/08/13 17:56:10
    Vivid
They do not have a problem here. They can be legally married in this state now. The reason why there has been a problem is because this is a very controversial thing since, generally speaking, our society has a firm conviction of what marriage is supposed to be. Why do you think there is a problem?
  • Magzilla Vivid 2008/08/13 18:00:25
    Magzilla
Because most gay people are not allowed to get married, they are not allowed the same benefits that straight people have, this is a big problem.

I agree they should be treated equally, especially for health care and such. My concern is more with the problem of pedophilia than whether or not gays get legally married, or not. Actually, I don't really care at this point because the other problem is bigger.

I agree, pedophiles need to be dealt with differently than what they are right now.

Why should they be? I personally think it's disgusting and perverse, like most self repecting people. It's a big problem for who?
  • Magzilla chief 2008/08/18 18:23:02

But what they choose to do doesn't affect you, and just because it doesn't fit your religious moral code doesn't give you the right to discriminate agaisnt them.

Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. The whole point is to reproduce which ensures the longevity of man kind. What is the point of gay marriage? Why do gay's feel they have to shove their ideals down the throats of everyone else?
  • Magzilla chief 2008/08/18 18:25:26
    Magzilla
You won't be forced into a gay marriage, you are not forced to any weddings for gay couples, gay people getting married does not affect you in any way, the only difference is that they won't be discriminated against anymore.
  • chief Magzilla 2008/08/21 14:17:12

There you go , trying to shove it down the throat again. Gay people are Californias biggest terrorist.
  • Magzilla chief 2008/08/21 22:13:54
    Magzilla
No I am not. How is it being shoved down your throat? They will get equal rights and that pisses you off? How are they California's biggest terrorist? Give me verifiable information to support your accusation.
  • chief Magzilla 2008/08/26 17:12:24

I don't need my servant , the government , to give me rights, I already have them and they are protected by the Constitution. It's not the governments place to establish rights against the will of the people here. If it was the will of the people it would be done. They are terrorists because they burn and destroy businesses of people who are openly anti gay, even do physical harm to them. Kind of like the idiot environmentalists who destroy entire parking lots of cars because they think they use too much gas. If you want to be gay, then be gay, but don't try to make everyone else accept it. That will never happen. You only want the marriage so you can get some benefit from the tax system , insurance , or some welfare program when you are sick from the disease you spread around. This is how it affects others.
  • Magzilla chief 2008/08/26 22:43:32
    Magzilla
How is that any different from straight people?
I am not gay btw. Gay people should be able to benefit from the tax system, insurance, or any other form of welfare program if they apply. They shouldn't be discriminated against.
  • chief Magzilla 2008/08/27 23:03:46

Says who? Straight people don't pretend to be a family , they really are. They have children according to nature. They are accepted. If it wasn't for straight people, you gays wouldn't be here, that's the difference.
  • Magzilla chief 2008/08/27 23:33:04
    Magzilla
How do you know being gay is natures way to control population?
They are not pretending to be a family, they are a family who are commited to eachother.
    You gays?

You can make your own public record of family history and origin and file it under miscelleneous at your court recording office, which will make that information "prima facia evidence of fact' in a court of law. It is very dangerous to invite government into your personal affairs by way of accepting their licenses.
