Do you favor a free national ID card for verifying voting and immigration status?

I must present my passport to get on an airplane or enter the US. I must show my drivers license when stopped by police for a traffic violation or show it to get a beer at a ball game (even though I am 68). Or show it to cash a check. I favor a national ID card to reduce voter fraud and the hiring of people not eligible for employment.

I have a DL, a SS card, a passport, a hospital insurance card, and more cards than necessary to prove who I am.

Many favor a national ID because it is so easy now to falsify SS cards and DLs. There is a group in Europe who do a bang up job. If they can do that, they will be able to trick out national IDs as well.

The only way to positively ID someone is by scanning the iris ( eye), which the military has used. Nationwide would be quite an undertaking.

I would not be opposed to an iris scan.

Not enough choices here. I actually oppose a national ID card. Schlaue has it absolutely right.

    Absolutely not.

This should be handled at the state level and enforced by the method(s) of their choosing.

Do the states have access to data on a person's immigration status?

If states are allowed to enforce it by their own methods.... that wont be a problem.

Nothing will be implemented before Jan. 2013 anyway because the Dept. of Just-Us wouldn't allow it. There will be many laws that run through the states after that date - unobstructed, including verification of legal status before being allowed any govt. assistance funds, mandatory E-Verify ... etc.

First, we have some elections to concentrate on.
