But we have to not forget who lobbies the government for these regulations and special benefits. There is a good reason, for example, that the big banks like Goldman were bailed out. They bribe the government officials and own most of them including the president and chairman of the fed. Its basically the partnership of corporations and government - fascism that we are dealing with.
And you are right in saying that regulations are a major part of the problem, especially when they are selectively enforced. Income tax, which is used to modify our behaviors and spending habits, is another great example of control, especially since it is selectively enforced.
We created the government to safeguard freedoms, but as Washington said, its like fire. When under strict control it can be quite a useful tool, but uncontrolled it'll burn us all to a crisp. We the people as a whole went from being vigilant people that didnt put up with any crap to sheep dependent on the government, and it took over. If government is to exist, it requires vigilant people to control it. Otherwise, its taken over by special interests.
Another MAJOR reason NOT to have Government. In a Voluntary System none of this is possible. Maybe another time we might get into a better discussion of all this. Tonite it's too late and too tired.
Generally government in anything is a bad idea, and if you get them involved in too much, you have too much consolidation of power which defeats the purpose of separating the power.
I'd limit government to at most constitutional levels. Anymore is too much and one can even debate the founders gave the federal government a little too much power and not enough restrictions. Although most powers today come from either ignoring the constitution or perverted interpretations - like the commerce or general welfare clauses.
What makes you think the government is helping WalMart.Obbie was bitching because they weren't union or isn't your attention span that long to remember back when obbie and the unions were trying to push their card check crap.
Wal-Mart is simple reseller of producer goods, they are a politically useful distraction for economic novices. It is the top down wealth debasing, semi-fuedal, crony-cap, big power, big money collusion that is destroying individual wealth and liberties in America today and that is the big fish that Americans should really be focused on instead of this cheap smelly demopublican bait.
WalMart is a fierce competitor. I've only been there a couple of times and did not like what I saw. About those great prices. Sure, mabe you can get a Sony TV much cheaper than the dealer in town. But whatever WalMart hawks, it offers the very lowest quality item that line has to offer.
WalMart follows another pattern. WalMart boosted Levi ( jeans, etc) sales for years. Then Walmart started making demands... use cheaper denim, fewer rivets, cheaper zippers, etc. Levi refused and WalMart cut back on many of their products.
Their effect has had both negative and positive effects on our economy. Marketing is just like anything else, sooner or later all things, whether it be science, religion, cultures etc., EVOLVE. Overall I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.
You might say it another way - Walmart competes best, If the small business cannot compete, it needs to switch to specialty items which are less subject to competitive restraints. It is the way of the free market. If you can afford to support the small businesses, then you're free to do so to support your "ideals".
Only the left hates walmart, but I bet quite a few lefties even work their. Walmart has been good for our Community, it has given kids, older people, and middle aged a place to work until retirement, or after retirement, or just something to do, and the kids can work and go to school. What is wrong with the leftist mentality, it is a good thing.
Of course WalMart is NOT bad for the U.S. Economy. It's one of the few entities in America that is making money, helping the economy, hiring people. It's certainly better at running things than our politicians are.
While I don't shop there for anything but sundries they are a testament to the American dream. You don't see competitors rising up from other nations do you? It is America where your efforts are rewarded with success, no where else.
They have put a lot of mom and pop stores out of business, but on the other hand, they do hire people. Question I have, is Walmart more helpful than harmful? I really don't know...
The consumer is motivated by a cheaper price, its just that simple. If you were looking for a new TV, Walmart has it for $600 bucks and the Appliance store down the street has the same set for $750, are you gonna throw away the $150 bucks... Not me I'm going where the price is low and selection is high.
no,the consumer is motivated by walmart's commercials and actually think its cheaper. in reality ,their prices are generally higher than other stores. in your example, why not wait for sales? the product at walmart is probably of poor quality.
Note I said the same product... and as far as price, Walmart will match any advertised price of any competitor... that's why they rake in the big bucks.
doesn't matter if they say its the same product,it could be damaged or imperfect in some way. how many people do you actually think take the time to look for different priced items and then go to walmart and stand in line to get a matched price?? probably none.
