It's not only public schools, we used a video home school that was Baptist based and I couldn't believe some of the stuff they came up with.

There is no such thing as accurate history anywhere in the world.

No. I had to spend quite a bit of time correcting inaccurate information that was taught to my daughter when she was in school.

We home school our children and use a curriculum that is used in many public schools. Almost every chapter in the history text book had some ideas that were "different" than what I remember being taught as a kid. Luckily, as the teacher of my own kids, I can look up the subject more in depth and educate my kids about what the book is leaving out or distorting.

Too many teachers are putting their own personal spin on things and that is completely wrong.

It's not so much what they teach as it is what they leave out. For example when they teach about vietnam they leave out a lot that should be included and when they teach about current issues they leave out almost everything. I think there is a lot that should be included and it should be taught without the instructors personal political beliefs. Often in the classrooms a teachers personal political beliefs are brought into the lessons

When I took US History in the late 1960s at a Public High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, MY OWN FAMILY'S HISTORY WAS BANNED. I'll say that again, "MY OWN COPPOC FAMILY'S HISTORY WAS BANNED FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL AMERICAN HISTORY CLASSROOM."

I have two relatives who were with John Brown at Harper's Ferry.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

A scholarly written report on John Brown and an attempt to discuss it in class, got me ejected from history class before I finished my first sentence in front of the class.

Later, there were similar problems with my father's experience with pacifist WWII arrest and internment.

The basics without any political spin on things. Maybe go back and use some older text books for part of history and forget about putting things in like Obama's statement about Muslim influence in the US which will probably show up at some point although we all know it's total BS.

No, the state(board of education) puts in the history books what they should feel your child should learn. Most of the information is not accurate.

There are college kids that have no clue about American and US history. That is why they vote the way they do.

What history? Schools in Florida spend so much time teaching kids how to take the standardized FCAT I would be surprised many kids could accurately tell you anything substantive about American History.

Absolutely not, no. The kids are being ideologized, not educated at all. 50 years ago my son came home from his history lesson, and said that "Hitler was a great leader, did you know that?". Says I: "Certainly, I did. He led the German people right straight to hell and aover 6 million of them to their deaths. Men, women, & children." I then went to school with him, and ended up forcing that "History" teacher to re-teach that class, giving true historical facts. The less parental involvement in public schools, the more the kids will be ideologized. I don't know what it is going to take to wake parents up.

Whenever you begin to extract any truth from history, you taint it with bias. For instance, if you were to give American history without telling the truth of some of the crimes against blacks or the Indians, would you get an accurate picture of our history? Of course not! Likewise, when you ignore the great influence of the Bible and Christians in the founding of our great nation, you again get a distorted view of our roots. Giving this perspective does coerce those who aren't Christians to believe as Christians, but it does make the picture we show them more accurate! It is a disservice to them NOT to tell the whole story!
