Do you believe that Obama really doesn't care whether the US goes over the Fiscal Cliff?

It is too bad both parties can't work together for the best for the entire country, not just some. If we go over the "Fiscal Cliff" both sides will be to blame while pointing fingers at the other side. Shame on all involved!

He'll blame the Republicans, he'll take no responsibility himself even though he hasn't meet with Congress to talk out the problems, and has doubled the amount of tax he said he wanted while campaigning. No one hold this disgraceful man accountable for anything, as usual he's getting a free pass, continues to run his mouth, continues to campaign instead of lead, and is going on another vacation when the US needs a real leader.

he will do a swan dive off the fiscal cliff. this gives him the tax revenue he wants, and the opportunity to keep spending anyway, especially with the "savings" from military cuts. obama be in high cotton divin off the cliff. that is, until people find out that the taxes he promised the rich would pay are actually taxes on them too.

The reality is that president Obama just offered concessions to the Republicans and at this point it is the Republicans who are still so trapped in their partisan anti-Obama mindset that they are refusing to make any agreement.

The GOP already wasted the last 4 years and millions of taxpayer dollars on their campaign to make Obama a one term president, using their lunatic fringe wing, the Tea Party to spread all sort of lies about the president, that he was Kenyan, that he was homosexual, that he was communist or socialist - that he was Muslim.. you cannot be both Muslim and communist but there was no logic or truth involved in all of the fear and hate mongering so no reason to let a little issue like impossibility stop them from telling a scary story ne? The GOP did not care in any way about the American people, they only cared about trying to ruin president Obama.

By stonewalling every thing the president attempted to do, the GOP is responsible for slowing the recovery to a crawl.

It was Republican wartime deficit spending that ruined the budget and big business outsourcing that nearly destroyed the middle class.

If it was important, it would not have been left until the last minute. It was designed to have been addressed a year ago. I guess he thought if he lost the election it would be a fine present to leave behind.

He's "concerned" but for all the wrong reasons. The US economy is basically a pyramid scheme. If things like the deficit or horrible savings rate or overconsumption or any number of other economic problems were solved then it would implode! So Obama doesn't actually want to solve the deficit, or even reduce it (as going over the "fiscal cliff" would do). He just wants to pay lip service to that while roping in more gullible/desperate creditors as long as possible.

I think Obama is trying to protect the middle class. If he accepts the republicans plan, then the tightening of deductions, such as the mortgage deduction will put a higher tax on the middle class.
A balance of some tightening of deductions and an increase in rates for high income earners would bring in more revenue without placing it all on the middle income earners.
That and cutting spending, including defense spending, and we could actually balance the budget within a couple years.

Of course, he has desperately tried to work with the republicans to prevent going over the fiscal cliff. Shame, shame, shame on the republicans, that they care more about their own agenda than the good of the country.
