The Obama administration tried anew Friday to defuse controversy over a requirement in the healthcare law designed to broaden access to contraception, proposing new regulations to protect some religious organizations from having to cover these services in their health plans.

The proposal, which comes after more than a year of heated debate, expands an exemption from the contraceptive mandate for churches and other houses of worship.

That was a nod to intense criticism from many religious groups that have been enraged by the provision in the Affordable Care Act that requires most employers to provide women contraceptive coverage with no co-pays or other cost-sharing.

No, I don't think he should be bowing down to these religious nuts. Religion has ZERO place in politics or healthcare. EVERY.SINGLE.WOMAN. should get FREE birth control. I don't care WHERE it comes from. Healthcare should be a right. It shouldn't be a "perk" to be able to afford the Dr or not. It's shouldn't be just a "perk" to get to stay alive. So you're Catholic? So what. Not all your employees are. Oh, YOU don't believe in BC? TOO BAD!

Yanno what else birth control is good for? Dropping the abortion rate...legally.

There should be no compromise when it comes to health care. Religious organizations should not be able to dictate what is and isn't covered in any health plan they offer. If a particular religion that doesn't believe in medicine decides they don't want to cover medication should they be able to deny that coverage? If you make an exclusion for one, you open the door for more exclusions later. If someone wants to be a good christian and not buy birth control, that should be up to the individual, not the church.

To deny someone medical care for any reason is a crime against humanity and a sin as far as the church is concerned. Keeping a woman from a prescription for birth control pills for medical reasons is just plain wrong. God supposedly gave you the ability to decide right from wrong. If it is wrong to use birth control then shouldn't it be up to the individual not to use it? And even if it isn't for medical reasons and just to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, isn't it easier and cheaper and less of a sin to use birth control than to have an abortion.

I come at my disagreement from the Liberal side. While for the most part 'harmless' this compromise is just silly - the rules are the rules. As an employer you don't get to opt out of taxes or laws you don't care for. This isn't even a question on the minds of other countries.

Libertarian beliefs are a real Rorschach test. Most Libertarians seem to think that the free market should take care of all health care anyway so this is a moot question. My view is that there is an active constructive role for Government to play in any 'General Welfare' (Federalist 41) areas and in times of crisis 'General Welfare' can certainly extend to supporting banks and car companies. Of course the Federalist interpretation of 41 and the term 'General Welfare' is much more limited but I'm the kind of guy who thinks 'General Welfare' means general welfare and 'Well Regulated Militia' means a well regulated militia.

Why doesn't Obama and his friends focus on something that's a lot more important to help the American people to get back on what he has been saying for years and not doing any of them and I do not think that he will !!!!
It's like he is turning the other direction when comes for anything to help the Americans, Like I said before he was in his first year of office that some day he will turn on the American people ad it's slowly happening.
It needs to be stopped in a way that isn't to late that other countries own American and that's just around corner, mostly with China.

Again, certain methods of contraception are used for other medical conditions and not just contraception. For example, the birth control pill is often used to treat women with hormonal imbalances. Now how is anyone going to check if they are actually using birth control for medical reasons and not contraception without breaching doctor patient privilege? for this reason birth control should be available.

Contraceptives are medicine.
Medicine, necessary prosthetics (like hearing aids) etc. should be on insurance.
Though, the larger issue is whether or not we should have NHS, but, in the hypothetical that NHS is the best way to go, I would be happy with this compromise.

I guess $280 a month for health ins is affordable to this elitest piece of fecal matter. $280 a month is what I was quoted by a SOCIAL WORKER last summer. He said when this health tax kicks in, that's how much it will cost me.

Since the priests have been getting caught doing the alter boys all the time, who don't need birth control because they can't get pregnant, they have had to turn to the nuns to satisfy their sexual needs... and nuns can get pregnant. It seems like the church should be pushing for free birth control.

I was raised in a Catholic neighborhood and the joke I use to hear all the time was, Why do always see two Nuns walking together? To make sure the other Nun don't get none.

But Priests are pedophiles, homosexuals and a few like the Nuns. That's why you always have tunnels going from the Monestery to the Convent.

I'm sure they rape Nuns too. I wouldn't put anything past the Satanist.
