What we have learned from Romney Care in Massachusetts is that less than 1% of the population chooses to opt out of the mandate. It is only logical to pay for insurance than it is to pay a penalty with no benefit. Then you STILL have no insurance and have to depend on others to pay for your health care if you are unable. Besides, you could lose everything you own without health insurance.

Why the individual mandate?

These days many conservatives dislike the use of a healthcare mandate to expand insurance coverage. But it wasn't always this way.

In fact, the very idea of an individual healthcare mandate originated from the conservative think-tank The Heritage Foundation.

No, it should have been struck down completely. If the Congress wanted to enact it as a tax, there was a method to do that; they did not do it. It is wrong of SCOTUS to "redefine" what this POS is and call it a tax. It is not the Court's function to define legislation.

The taxes for not having Obamacare is over $2500 a year. I don't have to pay if I don't have insurance. Obamacare forces you to have it and forces you to pay even if you don't have the money. Many people don't even want insurance.

That's true, but guess what? Obama lowered the bar for who's wealthy, so I could be considered wealthy and be forced to pay higher taxes. So if you don't want Obamacare you're forced to pay high taxes.

2013 a 3.8 sales tax will be added to anyone who sells their house to pay for healthcare.

It's hard to find a job with health care or who will pay for it. I am a family of four and we don't receive any state aid. I work part-time collecting unemployment that will soon run out. But oh I forgot obama said unemployment is decreasing...that's because people are running out of unemployment benefits and Obama won't extend the benefits. He needs to show people like you that jobs are increasing and people don't need unemployment any more. Insurance for a family of four is close to $400.00 for many companies.

I'm not a freeloader but I've been unemployed for almost 2 years looking for employment. I'm a laid off mammographer collecting unemployment and working for pennies at Costco. No benefits can't afford to pay insurance or pay the penalty fees. I do hope you lose your job so you will know what it feels like.
