In a year with sooooo many earth shattering events, I find it hard to believe that THIS is THE most iconic image of 2011 as chosen by the World Press Photo Jury.
There are MANY others I could think of...but this would be my choice...
Firefighters of Ladder Company 4 — which lost seven men on 9/11 — perched together on their aerial ladder, watching a news bulletin in Times Square declaring that Osama bin Laden was dead on May 2.
Pic YOUR image of 2011 from the pics I post below...or better yet post your own image..

depends on what you mean by iconic doesn't it? none of these pics does except the one that was picked.
I especially like how it mimic the Pieta imagery but with a Muslim twist.
I understand why the photo of the muslim woman holding up the head of a wounded civilian wins - the horrors of war in still life.
The winner should have been Jon Rose and "Waves for Water" foundation because they actually are doing something important such as bringing CLEAN water to 3rd world countries.
Shame on the MEDIA for neglecting this photo:
