Question News & Politics

Do you agree or disagree that the quality of military blogs have suffered since AR 530-1 Operations Security (OPSEC) was published?

MilBlogging.com October 03, 2007 21:44:01

OPSEC is a methodology that denies critical information to an adversary. Unlike security programs that seek to protect classified information, OPSEC measures identify, control, and protect generally unclassified evidence that is associated with sensitive operations and activities.

OPSEC is generally regarded as not only a methodology, but also a mindset, and has its roots in the Vietnam Conflict. Concerned with intelligence leaks to the enemy, Admiral Ulysses Sharp created the "purple dragon" team, which created the OPSEC process that is used today.

Earlier this year, AR 530-1 was updated.

Read up a little on it and it must be affecting the information we are allowed to receive but I cannot be sure...

Misinformation is an art...we've been using for years. Media is used like a puppet...and you want to take what they say with a grain of salt. It's not what they are telling us that bothers me. Because by the time we find out...it's too late. They sure the hell don't want to let radicals in this country even to know some of the stuff that goes on.

I do hope they are listening and reading.
To all American troops and contractors. Evacuate immediately. Hydrogen Bomb is in the air and will be deployed in 10 different locations within the boundaries of Iraq at 10:00. End of message.

dont go on military blogs often, but I can't see how this wouldn't affect them... its making it harder for people to access military information, so naturally its going to make the flow of information to military blogs suffer.

Ahh a fool feels secure with his government while the wise worry, this is a very interesting and political debate and though i have not the slightest clue what the AR 530-1 is i do know for a fact that everyone in the US IS EXPENDABLE and that everyone even the people who think they are in the "government" are on a need to know basis.

While everyone can understand that intent and perceived need for OPSEC AR 530-1, we should also expect blog quality to suffer.

This is a lame excuse for blocking truth from the United States citizens. We have a right to know what is going on over there with our tax dollars.

No idea if they have actually "suffered" but I can imagine the soldiers are feeling that their ability to effectively communicate whats going on has been restricted because of the crack down on uploading videos and using websites like myspace.

I think the administration-controlled media is the only outlet Bushie wants the war reported on. And we all know that Bush lies faster 'n a read of "my pet goat".
