Do We 'Need' the Federal Government?

Nimitz 2012/07/12 06:54:21
Yes--to provide for national defense/other strictly constitutional functions
No. All government services can be replicated by the private sector on a voluntary as opposed to forced/coerced basis.

Only if you strip away some of the Amendments and bizarre, course changing Supreme Court rulings. It should be something more like what the Founding Fathers actually envisioned and codified.

The abuse of the Commerce Clause should be the first thing corrected.

We need it to provide only the minimum Governmental functions established by the constitution. "Promote the general welfare" didn't mean pass out welfare checks, low income housing vouchers and food stamps. I meant that the government could buy the supplies necessary to conduct its other functions,

We don't have a Federal Government, unless one considers the United Nations to be that. Everything that the Federal government is needed for could be accomplished by treaties and economic pacts between the States.
