Anyone who says otherwise is a fool. Look at what they are doing right now. Instead of supporting our economy in the US and holding back sales of refined product and keeping prices lower here and lowering imports, they are selling oil on the open market and EXPORTING OUR NATURAL RESOURCES!!

Protecting both American Consumers and Oil Companies is not mutually exclusive.

anything to make themselves money instead of helping American go to work. Every one says Obama put us in debt but Bush started that debt by both ignoring the problem and starting to correct it when it was to late.

there should be a "None of the above" option. Republicans, just like any political party, is going to do what it sees as best for it. If its money comes from oil sales, then it's going to protect them, if it comes from arms sales, it's going to protect them, if it comes from the American people, then they will protect them. The problem is, the average Joe, even a lot of average Joe's, can't compete with Corporate America, when it comes to the sheer dollars they can afford to spend on lobbying and "buying" their favorite congressmen and women.

Of course they protect oil companies, over the American people. They have only one loyalty, and that is to any large corporation and the very wealthy. Examples are the voting against the removal of subsidies to oil companies. Even though they are making record profits. they vote against the Buffet rule, and then in the Republican budget they have huge cuts to the food stamp program, and to other programs that cut money to poor children. So again who are they loyal to?????????

This isn't a "party" position. This is laying the ground work for those politicians that are trying to land a position within an Oil Company when they are no longer reelected.

    Oil companies
    Quite obviously.

They've taken a stance that suggests the rest of us just do not like corporations, or profit, but that has absolutely nothing to do with it. "Some" of us understand oil is the problem, not the oil companies...

Drilling more here in the US, new pipelines from a Canadian oil company, etc, etc... does NOTHING for our price of gas at the pumps. Nothing! Those clamoring for these things as a "fix" for something are either ignorant on the realities of the oil market, or simply like one oil company over another. In either case, they are utterly missing the larger issue, which is our dependency on oil. This needs to be corrected. Curbing oil use would have far, FAR more impact on oil prices than drilling ANYwhere.

Oil companies are comprised of consumers. Real people work and depend on the oil companies profits. Whether its a paycheck, 401k, annuities, or pension plan the oil companies are America. Not to leave out the campaign war chest politicians from both sides of the isle. All of us are fed directly or indirectly by "big Oil".

You needed an "all of the above". With the likes of obummer doing everything he can to drive up the cost of gas and pretty much turnout the lights in America. Protected the oil companies IS protecting the consumers. When the price of oil goes up the cost of everything goes up. Since it takes fuel to transport everything to everywhere....

    Thank you.

Too many here believe we own the oil drilled by multinational oil companies on our land, instead of it just being put on top of the world oil market pile to be purchased by whomever wants it.

You never have enough options ! How about "BOTH" !! The government allows them to do more exploring here with the proviso that all oil coming out of the ground here, STAYS HERE !! Keep an eye on the speculators and keep them out as much as possible and we have a win / win situation !!! Prices come down and thousands are hired to do the drilling.

tell that to north dakota they are pumping 600.000 barrels a day and their gas price is $3.99 a gallon try texas crude $ 3,89 a gallon we consume 20 million barrels a day
the cost of drilling plus u s labor pay rate dont allow cheap oil prices in america north dakota oil
  • socokid cddjmikey 2012/04/18 14:02:26
The US exports about 1,000,000 barrels of petroleum a day.

You have this assumption that if the oil is drilled here, we own it. We do not... The US is at the whim of the world oil market prices not matter WHERE it was drilled. Drilling more in the US will make a few specific oil companies some profit, but it would do absolutely nothing for prices at the pump for Americans.

    Not, one, tiny, bit.

The only way to bring oil prices down is to reduce demand. Oil is the problem, and we need to get away from it for national security reasons ALONE. The US is manhandled by oil prices we have no control over like a lion with a teddy bear.
  • cddjmikey socokid 2012/04/18 19:23:11
We don't export oil they are exporting refined gasoline and diesel fuel. The oil companies are creating a shortage by exporting so much because they can get a higher price elsewhere thanks to the speculators. The consumption over here has been the lowest in years thanks to the warm winter. That is why I say keep an eye on and regulate if you have to the speculators and make a rule that whatever you pump from the ground here stays here.
  • socokid cddjmikey 2012/04/20 13:25:22
Petroleum... did you read my post incorrectly? I most certainly agree that the speculation has to be dealt with...

and make a rule that whatever you pump from the ground here stays here.
Will never, ever, ever happen. Sorry.

Without American consumers there are no oil companies. People who espouse this kind of baloney are either less knowledgeable when it comes to business's and how they work and affect our economy, or just hate the capitalist system and would prefer to have a centrally run government nationalize and control industry here at home for the greater good.
