Do Republicans Want Romney To Lose?

ProudProgressive 2012/08/07 13:15:15

Is the Fix In?
by BooMan
Sun Aug 5th, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, Think Progress put together a list of 20 prominent Republicans who think that Mitt Romney should release more tax records. The list included a mix of politicians, writers, and operatives. There were people like columnist George Will, former RNC heads Haley Barbour and Michael Steele, the current head of the RNCC, the governor of Alabama, and Sen. Chuck Grassley. The criticism of Romney has come from a wide swath of the Republican Party. This morning, Ed Rollins became the latest in a growing list of campaign strategists to join the choir.

"I think at this point of time it's going to dog him all the way and he needs to get it behind him," Rollins said. "I think he needs to release more taxes. Absolutely." Rollins, who managed the presidential campaigns of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) and President Ronald Reagan, said he would have released records from “five or six years" much sooner.

"I would not put out 20 years and I obviously wouldn't respond to anything Harry Reid states," he said. "At the end of the day you come to the point where you basically give a little bit more and you move forward. And he's going to do that. Two years is not enough, obviously."

Maybe Romney is going to do it, but I kind of doubt it. What I find more interesting is this spectacle of the usually quite disciplined Mighty Right-Wing Wurlitzer bellowing smoke and emitting clunking sounds. When Brit Hume and Bill Kristol are stomping on Romney's rationale for not releasing his taxes, you know that something has gone amiss. So, what is it? Is the fix in? Are conservatives openly sabotaging Romney's chances? Or do these ruthless operators actually have a point beyond which they won't go in defending the indefensible?

Let's remember these people's behavior during the Iraq War, shall we? These are the type of people who will tell you that a little torture is no big deal as long as someone is served chicken with rice pilaf and two kinds of fruit. Moral qualms and truthfulness are not things we normally associate with these folks. But they are not willing to do something much less difficult than glossing over torture and murder. They won't go on television and say that it's no one's business what Romney pays in taxes. They refuse to have his back on this.

Maybe a couple of them are simply offering sincere advice. They think Romney is making a strategic error and that nothing in his taxes is so bad that it would justify taking this much heat to avoid disclosure. But we're talking about more than 20 people now. And some of these people really ought to expect a chance to work for the Romney administration.

Romney isn't putting fear into anyone. He isn't earning any loyalty. He's not even getting much in the way of brown-nosing.

It really makes me wonder if the fix is in, and what that might mean for how the congressional elections play out. You can't throw half an election, after all.

The tax return thing is an issue fabricated by The Left, emphasizing class warfare. If IRS hasn't created problems for Romney, his returns are obviously legit and it remains a nonissue. The Left appears to be attempting to demonize tax deductions intended to be investment incentives for wealthier taxpayers..

Republicans don't trust Romney either. They have no idea what he may do if elected. Sheldon Adelson is hanging onto him everywhere he goes troubles them. He was right beside Romney in Israel and had a front row seat when Mitt made his lovey dovey speech. What big promises is Romney making him for that 100 million Adelson is willing to spend on him?

If Romney is elected then they would have to support his sorry azz in 2016. There are some big GOP guns that want to jump in that race. If the Republicans can control the Senate and the House, then they won't mind at all having Obama for president. It would actually be the best scenario for 2012 and 2016 for the GOP.

That plan is in force right now. Big PAC money is going after Sherrod Brown, Claire McCaskill is in bad shape, and Bill Nelson is fighting big money from Adelson and Karl Rove. Special interest money is pouring many millions into the Senate runs.

The damage Citizens United has done is beyond the pale.

I don't think many Republicans really care about this guy, and the longer he holds out on his tax returns, the more Americans will see him for what he is, and that will be the end of the guy.

What Republican wants Romney to lose? Plenty. Among the leadership, any who want to run in 2016. Add all those with VP ambitions who aren't on the current short list. Add those who'd rather work in a 2016 administration under another GOP Pres than in 2012 under Romney. Add all the RINO-haters and all those who think Mormonism is a cult. Add those who think we should avoid wars, considering Romney's saber-rattling about Iran.

Beyond all those, add cynics who realize that being able to rally anger against Obama is good for their business interests, like Fox, the NRA, and the lead birthers.

No, they don't want him to lose, but it's increasingly obvious that they don't want him to win, either. If they did, they'd tell him to shut the hell up.

PHUCK the tax records. He's provided everything he is legally obligated to.

The Proglodytes want a document dump....? FINE.

Let's start with proving the candidates are LEGALLY eligible to be on the ballot in the first place. Have them bring all their homework in a big box, turn it over to the SCOTUS and let them determine if the candidates meet the Constitutional requirements.

I'm sure they can show a tangible interest to subpoena anything that's missing or in question.

I agree! Even if he did release more tax returns whose vote would it change? Everybody pretty much knows who they are voting for anyway. All we would see is a bunch of nit picking liberals trying to distract people from the real issues. People forget he requested an extension in April. His taxes will be ready in October..when they are released I feel it will make the Dems look foolish. I have a feeling that's Romney's plan and right before the election. Let's just wait and see....

It has nothing to do with where he was born.
It has to do with falsifying records, manufacturing records, removing records, unavailable records, sealing records, etc etc etc.

I'm saying for both of them to come clean with everything and let it all be verified as it should have been 4 tears ago. It has to do with committing felonies that prohibit one from holding ANY public office.

It's already been proven pooch, and the reason he continues to refuse providing a hard-copy from Hawaii and why NOBODY at the Hawaii Dept. of Health will go on record and attest that what was put online matches what they sent.

The Selective Service registration is fraudulent as well, cannot be authenticated through E-Verify, nor can his illegal use of a Connecticut SSN for 25 years.

All three of those items vare felonies in the USA and any one of them render him ineligible to run for office.

This has gone well past what is actually contained on the images, it's the fact they were presented as being authentic.

Remember, it's not so much the crime, it's the cover-up.

I've posted it many times on this site and wont waste time doing it all again.
0bozo's Columbia records combined with the fraudulent 'documents' will be his downfall and this will all be revealed before November, one way or another.

If the DNC even tries to officially nominate him in September, 1,000's of lawsuits already await.

    GAME OVER

    Are you completely nuts?

Neither Bill or Hillary will ever run for ANY public office again.

They saw how things changed in the Summer of 2009 and the last thing they want is to re-open the cans of Whitewater worms. and the untimely deaths of Vince Foster, Jim McDougal & Ron Brown.
250 people either plead the 5th, moved out of the U.S. or simply disappeared so they wouldn't have to testify against the Clinton's.

The Clinton's closet is full, of skeletons and they will both be happy to write some books, give some speeches and count their $$$$.

Exactly! Who wants to pay the maximum amount of taxes? Don't we all try and find loop holes to pay less tax? Yes, I am sure the IRS would notice a man of Romney's wealth not paying a dime for 10 years! It's a ridiculous notion!
