Did you ever wonder whether liberals are more likely to block than moderates or conservatives when someone disagrees with them?

Well, wonder no more. According to a Pew Research Center tracking survey, liberals are about twice as likely to block or unfriend someone for disagreeing with them, as compared with moderates or conservatives on social networking sites.

My favorite way to get blocked is to slam a liberal with a fox news reference. The Marxist will spew the fallacy of shooting the messenger. But instead of identifying the fallacy I will slam them with a reference from Obama, MSN, or the Huffington post saying the same thing as Fox did.

I have been blocked many times for that move. It really frustrate a Liberal. It is a double slam on the Liberal. Especially using an Obama White House reference.

ill be honest ive seen more people who still believe that fox is a legitimate news source, or those who are conservative, republican, or democrat block more. primarily ive seen more religious people blocking people simply for not agreeing with them. the liberals do blocking too yes but its more people who dont like others who can prove them wrong or dont agree with their views.

Can't blame them really. Liberals have plenty of skeletons in their closets. And those skeletons they do let out into the daylight don't give them much to back up their arguments.

That wouldn't explain why moderates are even less likely than conservatives to block.

A better working hypothesis is that liberals are more thin-skinned about people who disagree with them.

Well at least Sodahead polls aren't scientifically correct... : ) It would be interesting to see who blocks more and who is more inclined towards offensive language, etc... Unfortunately each of us would bring in our own observations and prejudices to any estimate making this poll just about as 'independent' as any other poll on Sodahead which is to say completely without any scientific polling merit. Sodahead could tell us the average number of blocked parties for self identified liberals and conservatives but even that is subject to some debate. I've never blocked anybody because I know what happens when conservatives get frustrated - they gather up their wittle guns and go shoot someone. Don't want that on my conscience!

I have some doubts about the survey, based on my own observations. Certainly there are liberals who block for what I consider dumb reasons, but at least they usually admit that they block anyone who annoys them.

Having seen the comments on polls about blocking on SH, I KNOW that many who call themselves "Conservative Christians", downright lie about the reasons they block.

I know this, because I've been blocked by many who call themselves conservatives, simply for a dissenting opinion.

Censorship is by definition an illiberal policy. It's not my fault if others refuse to use words correctly. I have never blocked or censored anyone on any site and I have no intention on ever doing so. Being liberal means being a staunch advocate for the freedom of speech and all the other civil liberties. Anything else is a betrayal to the actual meaning of the word.
