It's easier, for sure. Anyone who had to kill someone would prefer to do it with a gun than have to actually get close and personal and stab the person.

Even when playing video games, shooting the imaginary people is very simple for me, but I still feel a slight tinge of disgust when I actually need to take a knife and stab a imaginary someone in a game. Especially if whatever I'm stabbing is threatening to my game character.

I've had nightmares were a psychopath has been chasing me and trying to kill me and my only weapon to defend myself was a dull knife, and the moment I've had to push the knife through the psychopath's body has always terrified me.

However, guns have been invented and now that can't be reversed. So for defense purposes and hunting and so forth, guns still still be used.

Japan didn't try to invade the US during WWII, because they were certain that every home had multiple firearms and people trained in their use. While my response doesn't pertain strictly to handguns the point is when those who wish to do harm believe there are armed and trained people about they are less likely to harm others.

NO.... it takes the HUMAN behind to do the deed , plan it out .. its not the gun...... If someone wants to kill they can do it in many different ways.... Example: the shootings in Colorado , Arizona and the most recent one could have been accomplished with a bomb, several well thrown grenades and more. Look at how many he could have killed with simply STABBING or CHOPPING rampage. He could have waited outside in a big truck or car and ran MANY down while crossing in mass to get to their cars.... Killing can be accomplished in MANY ways... as we all know.. Have everyone forgot so soon 911 ????

One could actually do a more efficient job of killing others with a good deer rifle and a hidden lair.

Guns dont kill people. People kill people. If they took our guns away, we would just start using baseball bats or tire irons.

Okay in addition to high powered guns, bombs and poison gas would be very effective! Not to mention nuclear weaponry!

I don't believe that someone with a very deadly knife could be quite as effective as Holmes was with his guns!

It's the person and act behind that trigger that kills. Same as knives, other objects, that can end a life.

They certainly don't make it more difficult.

It's not so much the "handguns" that are killing people, it's HATE-FILLED AGENDAS! It's Rush Limbaugh, it's Michelle Bachmann, it's White Supremacists, "Raghead haters", it's ANYONE who spreads a radical agenda aimed at other "types" of beliefs or people than they themselves want to accept! Definitely UN-Jesus-like! (...are all those mentioned above)!

A free nation makes it easy for the unbalanced mental cases to reek havoc. It is a price we pay for the freedoms we have. We are a throw away society when it comes to people. Most states have few mental facilities and we spend more money on corporate recovery and foreign aid than we do on helping our citizens. So if they don't pay enough taxes and contribute to the high priest of the IRS they are not needed in this Nanny democracy.
Bottom line don't blame and inanimate object it is user controlled.

Do you mean, "does it make it easier to murder someone"? IMO it doesn't matter. Someone bent on murder will committ murder.
  • Mopeder Dwight-... 2012/08/08 15:04:11

Not necessarily. A person with a gun is harder to stop. An unarmed man or woman doesn't have as much of a chance of defending themselves against such an attack.

Most killings are among friends and family members when the heat of anger clouds rational thinking, and the weapon is usually a pistol. Some of these people are felons, who have lengthy arrest records, incidents of past agressive behavior, mental disorders etc. James Holmes, the Colorado shooter, was being treated for homicidal tendencies. He easily passed back ground checks which enabled him to reign terror . Because of patient-doctor privilege, that doctor never alerted authorities. Perhaps that should get another look.

I am a gun advocate and gun owner but am also for very stringent background checks and longer waiting periods in addition to training sessions before permit is allowed.

Holmes didn't know those people he killed. Laughner didn't know Giffords. Roop didn't know Rainey. Hinkley didn't know Lennon. All this senseless violence is atrocious and America can never be great again as long as this killing is allowed to continue.

That can easily be done with a knife, poison, a blunt force object. There are many different ways to kill someone, a handgun is just one of them.

No Owning a handgun could prevent someone from running up in your home, as those communities with more gun ownership experience lower crime rates. A suspect is less likely to attack or reach for a firearm on someone that could possess one as well. The strongest argument for gun possession comes from both Thomas Jefferson, and a Texas woman. I will list her name once I find the video. Susanna Grattia Hupp.

You will never do away with guns and handguns in particular , America is armed and will be tillthe end of time . A pistol is nothing compared to a shotgun with an extension tube and 00 buckshot . One round can kill and kill a half dozen people so you would have to dissarm a huge segment of the population and guns rights is so ingrained in the American people nothing short of civil war could accomplish that . shotguns and bird hunting

Not as long as the human animal is a tool maker No gun? Knives, cast iron frying pans, axes, machetes, ball peen hammers, the list goes on and on. MAN is the one that kills, inanimate objects are only tools.
