Any couple or single mom or dad should be able to disciple their child, it is there duty to do so. Gay has nothing to do with, except to ignorant people who think of it in some perverted sexual way.;

My sexual orientation had nothing to do with the fact that my daughters each were spanked at least once in their life. Both girls remember their spankings and never pulled the stunts that caused them to occur again. My being gay had nothing to do with it, perverts get your minds out of the gutter.

If that's the way they want to discipline their kids, I'm not going to stop them.
It's a parent's right, after all, to discipline their kids however they see fit, no matter the sexual orientation.

Personally, I wouldn't spank my child. I see it as wrong. I don't like the idea of hitting kids. But some parents may be different. But overall, why would the sexual orientation of the parent matter? Discipline is Discipline! >.>

I could say “Only straight couples should be allowed to spank”, because I think only “normal” couples should have children. But that’s not reality. Given the reality of it all, if you have kids, and they screw something up egregiously, then spanking can be warranted, “normal” or gay.

First, I don't approve of gay parenting. But that aside, if we are going to permit gay people to adopt, we need to give them the same tools of discipline straight parents have.

But arent there more effective forms of discipline? Spanking is lazy, and counterproductive. I have my kids do push-ups and write essays about why they shouldn't have done what they did.

I agree with you, however and there is always a however in life. Time out is always good, drop and give me 20 is always good, Writing about what you did wrong is good. But when all that dicipline does not work. Spanking is not lazy, it's the last resort.

My father is gay (although he didn't come out until I was 16). My mother did most of the disiplining in the family, but my father spanked me once if I remember correctly... Because I was being a brat, not because he was being a pervert.

Actually I don't believe in spanking, however, sometimes the quickest way to stop a behavior is a pop on the hand reaching for the hot stove. Parents are in charge of their children, not the GOVERNMENT... the fact that a parent is gay has NOTHING to do with raising a child.

I always used spanking as a very last resort so it was few and far between - when all else had failed and only with my hand. This is one time when I'd have to say that it's not the make up of the parent unit, but that the parent unit has the right to discipline children. Spanking, too, is NOT beating.
