Do atheists have an oversimplified concept of God?

Whenever you see an atheist debate about the existence of a creator, they inevitably bring up the Spaghetti Guy here. It always makes me believe they have a over simplified view of a creator. And why they feel the need to compete with him/her/it is just as big of a curiosity. What's up with that?

Firstly, how do you know He doesn't have a brain? He doesn't need a brain, He is transcendent, He is the universe, everything in the universe yet outside the Universe. Think of it like the human body - The Universe is the inside, the galaxies are the cells and we, the life forms, are the DNA. God is inside all of us yet exists nowhere. God is us. That is the idea of an omnipotent, omniscient, transcendent and eternal God, it is impossible to understand Him or how He works. No amount of logic or intelligence or scientific fact can do so.

You are being ridiculous. You are trying to understand God again, and you are seeing Him as a human figure. Stop trying to understand God, it is fruitless. God is transcendent, yet immanent. He exists everywhere, yet is outside the Universe. Not pantheism, It is stated that God is inside all of us and is everywhere in the Bible. According to the Bible and Christianity we are all parts of God. Being all powerful and all knowing does not require predetermination. Your logic is amusing. God is most certainly supernatural. God is everywhere and nowhere, He is a spiritual being, comprised of everything in the universe.

Oh dear, again, get some knowledge of theology and stop acting on your own prejudices and ignorance. For the last time, you are trying to understand God! That is useless and will achieve nothing. God is beyond your comprehension, so you don't believe, yet evolution is beyond your comprehension and you believe without ever seeing it. BTW, you have no idea how fun it is to annoy you, plus it broadens the mind to argue the other point of view. You should try it, you are woefully closed minded, understanding the reasons for belief for another point of view helps your empathy skills a lot. I have learnt that both conservatism and liberalism can make for a good society. You could do with learning that as well, I feel.

Evolution is a theory. So is God. Both are possible, but neither are proven. You are simply being selective with your logic. Very little is proven, there is only likeliness. Evolution is highly likely and God is only 50/50, but neither are definite. Also, school does not teach you anything like this, you have you think for yourself. Probably why you don't comprehend it, you simply regurgitate what others tell you to believe. Sad, really.

I was arguing for the belief that it is entirely possible the Christian God exists, I don't believe in God, I don't believe in anything because I believe as we have no evidence or proof of God's existence it is logically reprehensible to follow any belief system about a god or lack of a god. I was arguing that it is not impossible for the Christian God to exist. Got that? Because that other prick didn't...

The sad thing is, I said multiple times that I am not a Christian, Atheist nor Pantheist, but Apatheist and I am arguing that the Christian God is just as likely to exist as no god is, and he goes blathering about my grammar and how omnipotence somehow equals predetermination... I couldn't get through to him... So closed minded...

I dont always read every post on a subject, as my time in here is limited... They are good at making up things and twisting what the words of the bible say... I love the "That isnt what it means" or the "You just dont understand but I do" and the "I am right and your are wrong" attitudes... They refuse to listen to logic. and they believe the laws of nature can be suspended.. Reality is a bitch, and they refuse to let it into their world.....

The bible is, if The Christian God is real, highly flawed. It has been doctored, abridged, faked and mistranslated too many times for anyone to say 'this is true because it says so in the bible'. But the idea of God is that He can't be understood no matter how hard you try because the human brain isn't able to. That's what he couldn't understand.

You cannot have an over simplified concept of something you think does not exist. That is like me asking you if you have an over simplified concept of the Easter Bunny.

I also think that if you asked all the atheists what they think a believer's concept of god is, you would get varying answers. It seems to me that even amongst the believers I know and/or speak with, the concept varies from the seemingly simple concept "God is love" to the seemingly complex concept "God is everything".

When you invent a god you can make it as simple or as complex as you wish. When you do not believe in any god simple or complex is irrelevant.

It is very irrational to say that the fact that some people have not found satisfaction in a life based upon the reality of our life on Earth proves the existence of a god. It is foolish to make the argument that the fact that some men wish for the existence of a god, proves the existence of a god. If I wish I were a billionaire, I will not become one, at least not without a lot of hard work. If I wish a billionaire were to take care of my financial needs, this does not mean a billionaire will do so.

I can find truth, good, value, and happiness without first having to suppose I must find a god or that these are actually the same thing as a god is. For sure, the Christian god falls short as the measure of truth and value. That God is all too man-created.

We have ALL the "concepts" of God in our minds. They are all stories told by humans.

Without evidence, it's just a story. Simple.

And "evidence" is NOT: "Oh the world is so beautiful and mysterious there must be a God" OR "The world is so huge and impossible to understand there must be a God".

That's NOT "evidence". it's only being aware of ignorance.

I can't and won't speak for all Atheist. But for myself and the ones I know personally it is far from a simplified concept and we never bring up the spaghetti monster. The majority of the ones I know are very well read in religion and science. Many like myself being educated for years in faith based schools. We have all read the bible at least once. Myself I have read 4 versions including the Vulgate Bible in Latin when I was younger. We also have all looked into other religions than the one we were force indoctrinated into. For myself I have formally and informally studied religions and belief systems for over 40 years and on four continents from the most primitive to what are considered the modern ones.
