WESTPORT, Conn. (CBS Connecticut/AP) — Westport’s
first selectman says the town has been informed it will not be
reimbursed thousands of dollars for President Barack Obama’s visit for a
fundraiser earlier this month.

First Selectman Gordon Joseloff says the Democratic National
Committee notified the town it will not pay police and fire overtime
costs totaling $14,812.

The town asked the DNC and Obama for America to pay the overtime costs incurred when the president arrived
at Sherwood Island State Park on Aug. 6 to attend a fundraiser in
Stamford and a $35,800 per person dinner at the Westport home of movie
producer Harvey Weinstein.

The New Register reports that an executive of the Democratic National
Committee wrote that as a private organization it did not participate
in security, traffic control, fire or emergency planning. She referred
questions to the Secret Service.

“I didn’t expect that we would get repayment, but it was worthwhile to ask,” Joseloff told the Register.

It seems this has become a habit for Obama to visit your town you pick up the bill. Just a sampling of the towns that have gotten stiffed by the DNC, and Obama.
$110,000 Obama's visit cost CU Boulder. The Obama campaign also stiffed Newport Beach, California $35,000 and Durham, New Hampshire $20,000 for extra security
costs.

LOL! Westport? they can pay for it... he showed up here in NH and a volunteer promised to pick up $13K of cost. i'm suspecting that he stiffed the Town.

its beautiful. $1.2 TRILLION dollar deficits and they can't cover their own campaign costs.

0WEbama is running a deficit campaign, he's very experienced in running up deficits. 0WEbama expects the surfs of the towns he shows up in to pay the costs. King Soetoro can't be bothered with paying for anything that takes his deficit campaign spending money. There are people to villify and that costs a lot more.

The difference between Obama standards and Romney standards is this: The city of Newport Beach, Calif., for months has been trying to get the Obama campaign to pay $35,000 in security costs for a fundraiser earlier this year. According to the Los Angeles Times, though, the Romney campaign did reimburse the city for security costs at a Republican fundraiser.

Either the Feds pay for it as protection of the President is the responsibility of the Secret Service or the locals pay for it. Same should be applying now to the Romney campaign side. Basically, it boils down to whether a community wants the candidate to visit and if they are willing to pay any excess cost. Do I think it's fair? No. Campaigns should pick up the tab. Unfortunately, the President has the ability to mix campaigning with the Presidency 'business' and gets to charge most, if not all, to the government.
