DNC Overrules Delegates, Rams God and Jerusalem Back into Platform: Did Party Leadership Overrule Delegates?

The Democrats made a mockery of decorum at today's Democratic national convention. It started by a nearly unanimous voice vote to suspend the convention's rules. Then the Democrats began their backpedaling to cover up their tactical blunder of making an anti-Israel and anti-religious platform. It culminated when DNC Chairman Mayor Villaraigosa pretended to take a vote, but disregarded the vote and adopted the amendment.

Democrats removed G-d from their party's official platform yesterday. The American public criticized the party for its position. The elitist leadership of the party shoved the mention of G-d back into its platform to avoid losing more of the religious vote -- despite the leaderships overt intolerance for people of faith.

The leadership relied on Governor Strickland, an ordained minister, to propose the amendment to mention G-d and identify Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Strickland misspoke when he said that the policy reflects Obama's position -- President Obama has never recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
This summer, I was proud to serve this party as the platform drafting committee chair. I came before you today to discuss the two important matters related to our party's national platform. As an ordained United Methodist Minister, I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the value we have expressed in our party's platform. In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and our party's platform should as well. Mr. Chairman, I have submitted my amendment in writing and I believe it is being projected on the screen for the delegates to see. I move adoption of the amendment as submitted and shown to the delegates.

What really went on here? Do the elitist leaders in the DNC have control over their party? Does the membership of the DNC share the views of its leadership? Who removed G-d from the platform? Who removed Jerusalem as the capital of Israel?

BREITBART.COM reports:
Tonight, the Democratic National Committee suspended the rules of the convention and inserted language regarding God and the State of Israel back to its platform. They had to vote three times to do it – and they had to lie to deem it passed, even though it was clear that the measure did not pass a voice vote in the chamber. The original 2012 Democratic Party platform had excised all mention of God and Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.

This was one of those bizarre moments only Democrats can give you. It was a combination of hilarious and scary. Hilarious to see the idiot mayor of Los Angeles trying time and time again to get the delegates to say "Yes" louder than "No", and to watch the angry delegates yelling "NO". Scary, because like the apostle Peter after the last supper, the Democrats denied God three times. Something to ponder.

America's largest lobby, AIPAC, owns most of America's politicians, regardless of party affiliation. The politicians serve their big contributors and the lobbies who they fear, not the people of this country.
And as for the whole god thing, since when does god balance the budget? The bible and the constitution are completely different texts, despite what many evangelicals like to think.
This country's political system has turned into a disgrace! I see no hope and no change from either side of the same dirty coin.

Well... I typically refer to Jefferson on this matter because he summed it up with such eloquence. lol Probably a bit wordy for your taste, but refreshing nonetheless :)

"You say that I have been dished up to you as an Antifederalist, and ask me if it be just. My opinion was never worthy enough of notice to merit citing; but since you ask it I will tell it you. I am not a Federalist, because I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all. Therefore I protest to you I am not of the party of federalists. But I am much farther from that of the Antifederalists."
--Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Francis Hopkinson, 1789)

The delegates are on the up-and-up, and they clearly REJECTED the change to the platform. They were CHEATED by their DISHONEST and GUTLESS leaders.

Then they proved to be gutless themselves, by not DEMANDING that their having been cheated be rescinded!

Two other points: (1( TEL AVIV is the capital of Israel, NOT Jerusalem. So the delegates were right NOT to seek to approve the insertion of a LIE into their platform. And (2) the writer of the article above needs to learn how to spell "God." It's NOT rocket science! God's name is only 3 letters long!!

I believe the capital of Israel is Jerusalem - to my limited knowledge, is is certainly in the hearts of most Israelis. Google (I'm assuming you can find it there - along with everything else under the sun - the radio recording of the Israeli after they captured the Old City. The 'Palestinians' did not give one iota about Jerusalem until after the Israelis captured it.

Fortunately for the Israelis and the informed people on this planet, anyone's happening to speciously "believe" that Jerusalem is Israel's capital does not change the FACT that TEL AVIV **is** the capital. As anyone who serves in the Knesset can readily tell you. The last time I was in israel, the Knesset was still in Tel Aviv.. And clearly, HALF of the delegates at the convention were intelligent to know that, so did not want to incorporate a LIE into their platform. Too bad their Chairman was DISHONEST to the core... and DESTROYED any credibility that he ever may have had, in the process!

I wonder what building I was seeing in Tel Aviv, then? Well, no matter, since OUR embassy, as well as most of those of the rest of the world's countries are in Tel Aviv because Tel Aviv IS Israel's capital.
  • beachbum Xanadu 2012/09/06 22:41:21

True - the embassies are not in Jerusalem.........but to the Israelis, the capital is Jerusalem. Again, if you Google the radio announcement of when they captured the Old City...........
  • Xanadu beachbum 2012/09/06 23:53:11 (edited)

Clearly, most of the rest of the world has good reason to still regard Tel Aviv to be the capital. And for those nations to keep there embassies there. Possibly to avoid unnecessary international tensions being raised if the Palestinians perceived that regarding a city that has such international and multi-cultural significance (Jerusalem) to be Israel's capital could be an action tantamount to excluding them. Tel Aviv has worked fine as a pragmatic capital of Israel, so it's very sensible, and there's no point in rocking the international boat for NO good reason. The Republicans are irrational agitators, and now the LEADERS of the Democratic convention have kowtowed to them. FORTUNATELY, though, the delegates know better, and REJECTED the amendment. And it is what THEY said that COUNTS. *Not* the LYING assessment by the leaders.

Clearly the rest of the world thinks it's expedient to be PCregarding Jerusalem. BTW, I am assuming you know that previous Dem platforms refer to J as the capital...........
  • Xanadu beachbum 2012/09/07 01:23:31

Actually, I was unaware of that. But at bottom, this whole flap and fiasco was Republican-induced, and that's why I was so heartened to see the delegates not falling for such specious "pressure," and REJECTING it. And if the DNC leaders had been in possession of any semblance of a brain, they would have accepted the clear (and worldwide-televised rejection, let the amendment fail from ALL standpoints, and been done with it. The ReTHUGlicans must be laughing their tails off at having so successfully flummoxed the DNC convention. Which says a lot about the "quality" of Republicans.

Ha. No, the DNC never cares what the other side thinks. As Obama said when Republicans tried to compromise, "we won".

What Democrats don't want to face here, is that party strategists knew throwing God and Israel under the bus would completely lose them the independent and moderate vote. So the wolves put their sheepskin back on, even though some of them were uncomfortable in it.

UNLESS the currently-gutless wonders on the convention floor get off their butts and DEMAND that the LYING on the part of Villagairosa be RESCINDED, then THIS situation will prevail:

    (1) The REAL platform will NOT contain the amendment which was REJECTED by the
delegates -- no matter WAT it may say on paper. And wth whole world knows that.
The LEGAL platform is DEVOID of that verbiage, and thus is the ONLY platform that
should be accorded credibility, nationwide. AND...

    (2) The PUBLISHED platform that contains the amendment is BOGUS, and was officially
REJECTED in that form by the delegates. And thus should be regarded that way by
    everyone.

This just goes to show how low the dems are willing to get a vote ... They got wind that the decision to leave out God and Jerusalem was being questioned by people in their own party and the did the FLIP FLOP. Typical of this party and president ... Anyone with a single brain cell can see through this... It was philandering for votes .... They KNOW they are in deep doo doo and will sink to even more lows to get a single vote ....... Really is this what America stands for?......... Is this kind of leader we need while so many are PRAYING to GOD to get a job, keep their mortgages afloat, praying for relief at the pump?
