    And proud of it. Really sad that only McCain, Brown and a few others on the Republican side voted for the treaty. It appears as though us in the Middle are losing the Republican Party to the extremes. I think I know how the Democrats felt when they were usurped by the Progressives in the late '90s/early 2000s.

    Third United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea replaces outdated agremeents adating back to 1960. It requires parties to the treaty to adopt regulations and laws to control pollution of the marine environment. The treaty will establish a system of property rights for mineral extraction in deep sea beds, making the investment in such ventures more attractive.
